Cryonic Societies

(Edited)

The latest posting on the Isaac Arthur YouTube channel at the time of this writing is about cryonic preservation. Basically freezing a being for long term storage. It's not hibernation since the being is generally medically dead before or being frozen. This may be done for purposes such as allowing a patient to be revived when a cure is discovered or for long voyages in space.

One of the interesting points that is brought up in the video is that by the time the technology to revive a cryonically preserved person is in common use the need to preserve a patient for medical purposes may no longer be an issue. The tiny robots that most imagine would be part of the process of reviving a frozen body could be used to repair the cells of an already living patient.
