The Baubliai

The Baubliai is the first museum of antiques in Lithuania.

The museum was established in an oak tree trunk in 1812 by samogitian nobleman, writer and historian, well-educated person Dionizas Poška who lived between 1764-1830.

which was about a thousand years old at that time used to be called Baublys.

In 1824 one more oak tree trunk was placed next to Baublys.

Dionizas Poška used it to work and have a rest there. He kept his archeological findings, historical and ethnographical materials, pictures Of ancient gods famous people's portraits and a
library of about 200 books. Scientists and public people of the national rebirth were interested in these collections, song festivals, choir contests and coutings were organised here.
After the death O Dionizas Poška according to his will the antiques spread in Lithuania, many of them were lost during Word War l.

Between the end of the19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries the Baubliai straw roof was replaced, the building was boarded, covered with wooden convexes, and fixed with metal
hoops.
The museum was reestablished in 1947 and served as the Memorial Museum of Dionizas Poška between 1949-1962.
It was conserved for the first time in 1956.
The Baubliai was announced to be the historical monument of republican importance in 1969.
In 1971 Baubliai were covered with glass convexes.

Since 2008 Bijotai estate farmstead has been called Baubliai and recognized a cultural monument.

In 2011 project , Baubliai estate farmstead Baubliai complex adaption for tourism" was completed.
The Baubliai an ancient cultural monument of Lithuania having no analogues and reminding of writer Dionizas Poška as wellas the past of Lithuania.
