Comenzó el US Open tercer major del año
Quizás a algunos les sorprenda que hoy no esté hablando de la selección de fútbol argentina, que en el día de ayer se volvió a lucir con un funcionamiento similar al que le permitió ganar el campeonato mundial en Qatar hace tan solo unos pocos meses atrás, con un Messi intratable, como si continuara jugando en aquel recordado torneo, de paso comento que convirtió su gol más tempranero de toda su carrera, en apenas 80 segundos de comenzado el encuentro convirtió un hermoso gol, como nos tiene acostumbrados.
Pero fue solo un encuentro amistoso y no tiene demasiado sentido entrar en análisis y opiniones sobre ello, por eso es que voy a hablar de golf que es un deporte que practico y sobre el que conozco que es extremadamente difícil, tanto como apasionante y adictivo. Algunos que lo han visto quizás en forma esporádica y por poco tiempo no se hacen una verdadera idea de esto que menciono.
Como comenté en anteriores publicaciones, cada año se disputan una gran cantidad de torneos entre los que organizan la USGA en los Estados Unidos y Europa que tiene su propio circuito, sin hablar de ligas muy importantes aunque menores en calidad de los jugadores que la integran y en los premios que reparten, entre ellas hay un par de ligas asiáticas donde existe un enorme entusiasmo por este deporte. Por supuesto cada país tiene sus propios circuitos y de allí surgen talentos que luego vemos por televisión disputando torneos por grandes sumas de dinero.
Dentro de esta gran cantidad de torneos se destacan cuatro que forman el llamado "grand slam", a saber el Masters de Augusta, el PGA, el abierto de los Estados Unidos y el British Open, ganar cualquiera de ellos otorga grandes beneficios económicos al triunfador y un prestigio que no muchos han alcanzado en sus carreras, justamente en el día de ayer comenzó el tercero de ellos, el US Open o Abierto de los Estados Unidos si lo prefieren.
Este torneo siempre se ha caracterizado por presentar canchas muy difíciles y los directivos de la USGA se complacen en observar como los jugadores no logran buenos scores, cuando ello ocurre se supone que se ha cumplido con el cometido, la cancha presentó tantas dificultades que pocos han logrado sortearlos de manera correcta.
En la historia de este torneo que comenzó en el año 1895 solo hubo dos cortos períodos en los que debió interrumpirse, fue durante el desarrollo de las dos guerras mundiales. Durante todos los años en los que se disputó hubo repetidas veces ganadores con scores por sobre el par de la cancha, algo poco habitual en cualquier torneo donde generalmente los que juegan mejor bajan el score total que esa cancha posee. En muy pocas ocasiones ha habido ganadores con resultados de dos dígitos en menos del par y eso no es del agrado de la USGA, su fama de presentar canchas extremadamente difíciles disminuye cuando eso ocurre.
En el día de ayer los directivos de USGA deben haberse visto sorprendidos por el -8 que presentaron dos jugadores, algo que jamás había ocurrido en todos los años en que se disputó este torneo, la cancha en la que se disputa el torneo, (Los Ángeles Country Club) es de par 70 y ambos jugadores, Rickie Fowler y Xander Schauffele, terminaron el recorrido de la primera vuelta en 62 golpes, inaudito, nunca había habido en esta larga historia un 62 y no uno sino dos jugadores lo hicieron.
Seguramente anoche varios deben haber estado reunidos para tomar medidas que retorne la senda de la dificultad; Uds. se preguntarán ¿que se puede hacer?, bueno, atarle los brazos a los jugadores no es una opción, por supuesto, pero hay cosas que si pueden hacer: poner los hoyos en posiciones más ocultas o en pendientes más pronunciadas y que un lanzamiento hacia ese objetivo sea más riesgoso, pueden cortar más al ras el césped de los greens o regarlos menos para que estén más duros y sea más dificultoso que las pelotas caigan y se mantengan cerca de los objetivos. Ya he visto que los fairways que es el camino de césped cortado que marca la senda y dirección hacia los hoyos no poseen un corte intermedio de un par de metros que suele ser un área menos penalizante, terminan abruptamente en un rough alto y enmarañado de un pasto especial que provoca que el siguiente tiro sea más difícil y sin control.
Como ven amigos, opciones para complicar las cosas tienen y seguramente serán utilizadas para tratar de conservar esa característica de torneo difícil que siempre distingue al tercer major del año.
No es que queramos ver sufrir a los jugadores pero así se plantean las reglas del juego y seguramente los que lo observamos desde afuera tendremos mayor diversión y emoción, después de todo eso es parte de la tradición y del espectáculo del golf.

As I mentioned in previous publications, every year a large number of tournaments are held between those organized by the USGA in the United States and Europe, which has its own circuit, not to mention very important leagues, although minor in terms of the quality of the players that make it up and in the prizes they distribute, among them there are a couple of Asian leagues where there is enormous enthusiasm for this sport. Of course, each country has its own circuits and talents emerge from there that we later see on television playing tournaments for large sums of money.
Within this large number of tournaments, four stand out that form the so-called "grand slam", namely the Augusta Masters, the PGA, the United States Open, and the British Open, winning any of them grants great economic benefits to the winner and prestige that not many have achieved in their careers, just yesterday the third of them began, the US Open or the United States Open if you prefer.

It is not that we want to see the players suffer, but that is how the rules of the game are established and surely those of us who observe it from the outside will have more fun and emotion, after all, that is part of the tradition and the spectacle of golf.

Antes solía ver mucho los torneos del Tour de la PGA, sobre todo los torneos más importantes y los majors o Grand Slam. El US es uno de mis favoritos, es un gran torneo que vale la pena apreciar.

Si, Augusta realmente es de otro nivel, pero no sé porque disfruto mucho del US. Lo malo es eso que mencionas que cambian de lugar, pero del resto es un gran torneo en general. Veremos cuál es el ganador de este año.
