Demos gracias a Dios (SPA-ENG)
En mi país solemos invocar con frecuencia un chiste que sencillamente es una burla contra nosotros mismos: dicen que Dios, cuando estaba creando el mundo, se detuvo en el cono sur de América Latina y comenzó a poner hermosos paisajes, tierras extensas y fértiles, gran variedad de climas, enormes reservas de agua, petróleo y minerales, un ayudante que lo asistía en esa tarea lo interrumpe y le pregunta si no será demasiado bendecir a una nación con tantas riquezas en detrimento de otros que poco tienen, a esta acotación el Señor responde: no te preocupes, para compensar lo llenaré de argentinos.
En varias ocasiones he pensado que el chiste tiene mucho de verdad, aunque en otras, las menos lamentablemente, veo que hay argentinos que pueden ser rescatados de esa calificación en la que nos autoenglobamos. Toda generalización lleva a injusticias y siempre hay cosas rescatables.
Unos días atrás se cumplieron 21 años del debut de Messi en el fútbol profesional, en el club Barcelona específicamente, cuando era una joven promesa de solo 17 años. Una carrera extraordinaria, lo que se puede decir sobre él llevaría muchas páginas y, además, gran parte de ello lo ha escrito @estelacha en su publicación del día de ayer, es suficiente.
Como resultado de aquel debut y su posterior carrera en el fútbol, surgieron en las redes sociales de la Web 2 gran cantidad de imágenes, comentarios y acotaciones. Entre ellas apareció esta fotografía, un muy interesante recuerdo que sirve de marco a mi nota de hoy.
Desde el punto de vista deportivo y específicamente hablando del fútbol, los argentinos hemos sido bendecidos, no cabe la menor duda. Y si alguno cree que exagero, la fotografía del encabezado muestra a tres de los más extraordinarios jugadores de este deporte que la historia ha dado, los tres son argentinos y para quienes no conocen a alguno, menciono: Alfredo Di Stéfano, Diego Maradona y Lionel Messi.
Se puede discutir y está bien que así se haga, si alguno fue más que otro, si fueron superados por algún otro jugador o no. También, por supuesto, se puede hablar de la vida personal y los errores que han cometido fuera del juego, pero si nos ceñimos exclusivamente a lo futbolístico, es indudable que los tres están en el Olimpo del deporte más popular en el mundo.
A Di Stéfano no lo vi jugar, solo lo pude apreciar como DT que no fue su característica más destacada, como futbolista ha sido considerado por la propia FIFA como uno de los 4 más destacados del siglo XX junto a Pelé, Maradona y Johan Cruyff. Fue el ídolo máximo del Real Madrid, tanto que en los 11 años en que jugó con la camiseta merengue, el club era conocido como "el Madrid de Di Stéfano". No solo en Argentina y España, fue mundialmente reconocido, a tal punto que hasta el momento es el único jugador en toda la historia de este deporte en haber sido premiado con el Super Balón de Oro, distinción con la que se premió su carrera en el año 1989.
De Maradona y Messi no voy a decir nada más, ríos de tinta han corrido para describir sus hazañas deportivas, las de Messi aún no acaban.
Dado que aquí hablamos de deportes, en el fútbol, que es nuestro deporte favorito y tanto amamos los argentinos, tenemos sobrados motivos de orgullo.
En ese estricto sentido, sí podemos asegurar que hemos sido bendecidos y debemos dar gracias a Dios.
Let us thank God

On several occasions, I've thought that the joke has a lot of truth in it, although on other occasions, less sadly, I see that there are Argentinians who can be rescued from that label we often label ourselves with. Every generalization leads to injustice, and there are always things that can be redeemed.
A few days ago marked the 21st anniversary of Messi's debut in professional soccer, specifically with Barcelona, when he was a promising youngster of just 17 years old. An extraordinary career. What can be said about him would take many pages, and besides, much of it was written by @estelacha in his post yesterday, which is enough.
As a result of that debut and his subsequent football career, a large number of images, comments, and remarks emerged on Web 2's social media. Among them was this photograph, a very interesting memory that serves as a framework for my article today.
From a sporting perspective, and specifically speaking of football, we Argentines have been blessed, there's no doubt about it. And if anyone thinks I'm exaggerating, the photo above shows three of the most extraordinary players in this sport that history has ever produced. All three are Argentine, and for those unfamiliar with any of them, I'll mention: Alfredo Di Stéfano, Diego Maradona, and Lionel Messi.
It's open to debate, and right to do so, whether one was more than another, whether they were surpassed by another player or not. Of course, we can also talk about their personal lives and the mistakes they've made outside of the game, but if we stick exclusively to football, there's no doubt that all three are in the Olympus of the most popular sport in the world.
I didn't see Di Stéfano play; I only appreciated him as a manager, which wasn't his most notable trait. As a footballer, he was considered by FIFA itself as one of the four most outstanding players of the 20th century, along with Pelé, Maradona, and Johan Cruyff. He was Real Madrid's greatest idol, so much so that during the 11 years he played for Real Madrid, the club was known as "Di Stéfano's Madrid." Not only in Argentina and Spain, he was recognized worldwide, so much so that to date, he is the only player in the entire history of this sport to have been awarded the Super Ballon d'Or, a distinction that honored his career in 1989.
I won't say anything more about Maradona and Messi; rivers of ink have flowed describing their sporting exploits, but Messi's are not finished yet.
Since we're talking about sports here, and soccer, which is our favorite sport and one we Argentines love so much, we have plenty of reasons to be proud.
In that strict sense, we can say that we have been blessed and we should thank God.
