Efecto mariposa

Seguramente muchos de los que están leyendo esto habrán oído la frase: "si una mariposa aletea en Japón puede provocar un huracán en los Estados Unidos", o alguna variante de país, inclusive de catástrofe. En realidad, es una variante de un antiguo proverbio chino que dice más o menos así: "El aleteo de las alas de una mariposa se puede sentir al otro lado del mundo"; se sintetiza en esa frase lo que hoy se conoce como teoría del caos: pequeños cambios que pueden conducir a consecuencias inesperadas y divergentes.

Hay un libro de la escritora y monja budista japonesa-americana Ruth Osuki cuyo principal argumento se base en este proverbio, otro ejemplo que quizás alguno recuerde es la película del año 2004 protagonizada por Aston Kutcher y Amy Smart que tuvo dos secuelas, aunque no el éxito esperado.

Sin embargo, como estamos en el feed de @fulldeportes no es de proverbios, caos, libros ni de películas que estoy hablando, solo es una introducción para recordar como un hecho aislado derivó en el debut de Michael Schumacher en la F1, algo que cambió la historia de la categoría para siempre. Como si este echo fuera poco, también podemos mencionar que el protagonista del evento con el paso de los años tuvo una relación comercial con la Selección Argentina de fútbol, campeón mundial en Qatar 2022.

Me estoy refiriendo a un piloto de origen franco-belga nacido en Luxemburgo llamado Bertrand Gachot cuya historia podría ser el argumento de una película pero que fue real y no solo arruinó su carrera como piloto de la máxima categoría, sino que además su reemplazo provocó el debut del séptuple campeón mundial, el extraordinario Michael Schumacher.

En un viaje a la ciudad de Londres el por entonces piloto de la escudería Jordan tuvo un altercado con un taxista por un incidente de tránsito que culminó en una pelea callejera, el conductor del taxi lo denunció por haberlo rociado con gas pimienta y Gachot recibió una durísima sanción, debió permanecer en la cárcel por 2 meses más una importante suma de dinero. De todas maneras, tuvo una reducción importante en la apelación ya que originalmente le habían dado 2 años de reclusión.

Gachot había participado con resultados alentadores en el campeonato de 1991, 5to. en Canadá y 6to. en Gran Bretaña y Alemania, en un intermedio entre carreras ganó junto a Johnny Herbert y a Volker Weidler las 24 Horas de Le Mans, todo iba muy bien encaminado hasta que se produjo ese evento desafortunado. Jordan buscó un piloto de reemplazo y el elegido fue Schumacher.

Pese a que muchos se pusieron de su lado, inclusive varios pilotos y compañeros que consideraron absurda la pena de prisión, su equipo no lo respaldó y tuvo que buscar otros horizontes. En la última carrera del año tuvo la posibilidad de reemplazar al lesionado Eric Bernard en el equipo francés Venturi Larrouse, no logró clasificar junto a otros varios pilotos, por aquellos años sobraban autos en la categoría. Sin embargo, fue contratado para el año siguiente.

En 1992 logró una sexta posición en el gran premio de Mónaco, fue el único punto de su equipo en todo el torneo y también el último punto de su cosecha personal en la categoría.

Con el paso de los años se convirtió en un exitoso hombre de negocios, creó una importante empresa de bebidas energizantes llamada Hype Drinks y comenzó una serie de alianzas con países del Medio Oriente con el objetivo primordial de ser uno de los patrocinadores del mundial de Qatar. En ese marco firmó contratos con algunas de las principales asociaciones de fútbol del mundo, entre ellas la AFA que culminó llevándose el torneo ecuménico.

Bertrand Gachot recuerda el incidente con un cierto dejo de tristeza y resignación, dice que estuvo en el momento y lugar equivocado y que ello permitió la llegada de Schumacher a la F1, aunque aclara que luego el mérito fue solo del alemán.

Bertrand Gachot remembers the incident with a certain hint of sadness and resignation, he says that he was at the wrong time and place and that this allowed Schumacher's arrival in F1, although he clarifies that later the merit and achievements belonged only to the German.
