Practicar es la única manera de mejorar
Como dice en mi breve reseña de Hive, me gusta la pesca con mosca y el golf.
Sobre la pesca tendría miles de anécdotas y fotografías, pero como es algo que no todos reconocen como un deporte, prefiero dejarlo más relegado, pero con el golf no hay problema.
Ayer por la tarde aunque estaba nublado y algo fresco decidí concurrir al club más cercano a casa que tengo para tirar pelotas, como se acostumbra a llamar a la práctica y entrenamiento.
El José Jurado es un hermoso campo de golf, bastante largo y difícil para los aficionados aunque rara vez se desarrollan torneos de profesionales en sus links, no es lo suficiente largo y difícil para ellos y se les hace aburrido y poco competitivo.
En este club que se encuentra frente al autódromo metropolitano, donde alguna vez se corrieron carreras de la Fórmula 1, van muchos inmigrantes asiáticos, por alguna causa la mayoría de los que aquí viven tienen gran predilección por este deporte y quizás también por este club ya que la cantidad de socios que tienen de Corea, Taiwán y Japón excede lo normal. Es mucho más frecuente ver jugando personas de esa raza que argentinos y por ende latinos en general.
Hasta me animo a decir que las mujeres asiáticas son tanto o más entusiastas y hasta fanáticas que los hombres, se las ve por todos lados, practicando y jugando en el José Jurado.
Yo voy bastante al campo de práctica para tratar de mejorar mis tiros, a mi edad ya no puedo exigirme una gran destreza y distancia de tiro pero mientras el cuerpo aguante haré lo posible por jugar mejor y eso solo se logra practicando, tirando pelotas.
Debo agregar que el club ha mejorado con el arribo en masa de los jugadores asiáticos, algunos años atrás estaba, según mi criterio en una leve pero constante decadencia, el campo de práctica era casi un terreno abandonado, las pelotas estaban rotas o sucias y eran pocas, había que esperar en ocasiones para poder hacerse de un balde con 100 de ellas para ir a practicar. Hoy eso ha mejorado notablemente, tanto como los vestuarios, el club house y todas las instalaciones en general. El campo de juego siempre estuvo bien, eso no se dejó de cuidar nunca.
Además de la zona de práctica de tiros largos con marcadores en las 50, 100, 150 y 200 yardas, hay una zona un poco más pequeña pero también bien señalizada para practicar el drive sin peligro de pasar la red del fondo ya que detrás de ella está el hoyo 8 y sería un peligro que una pelota pase los límites del campo de práctica y lastime a algún jugador. 200 yardas es una distancia fácilmente superable por un pegador regular con su drive y esas 60 o 70 yardas adicionales que agrega el sector destinado a practicar con ese palo es algo bueno y mucho más seguro.
Más cerca del club house hay un sector destinado a la práctica del chip, fundamental para lograr mejores scores y por supuesto, antes de la salida del hoyo 1, se encuentra el putting green o área de práctica de putter, donde todos practicamos ese tiro tan difícil que define el score y el resultado final.
Ayer me dediqué a practicar mis tiros con hierros medianos y un par de híbridos a los que les tengo gran confianza, había una escuelita de niños y niñas pequeñas ocupando una buena parte de las gateras habilitadas pero todos en silencio, algo necesario para lograr una buena concentración y en definitiva mejores tiros.
Antes de retirarme pasé unos buenos 20 minutos practicando chip, había una señora asiática también practicando sus tiros cortos y lo hacía de gran manera, mucho mejor que yo, aproveché para mirarla un rato y tratar de aprender algo de su técnica. Mis últimos tiros traté de ejecutarlos de manera similar a lo que había visto en ella y debo reconocer que comencé a dejar la pelota más cerca de la bandera a la que estaba apuntando.
La tarde estaba nublada como dije al principio, ya se nota la llegada del otoño, pero con el correr de las horas fue mejorando y terminé la práctica bajo un lindo y templado sol.
Esta tarde veré la definición del HBC Heritage donde el argentino Emiliano Grillo se encuentra en buena posición para al menos terminar entre los 10 primeros, este golfista comenzó de la mejor manera su carrera profesional en los Estados Unidos ganando el primer torneo que jugó, todos nos ilusionamos; sin embargo luego de ello no pudo volver a repetir y en cada torneo combina buenas y malas para nunca hilvanar cuatro días perfectos, algo que se necesita y mucho para ganar en el PGA.

It is much more common to see people of that race playing than Argentines and therefore Latinos in general.
I dare say that Asian women are as enthusiastic or even more fanatic than men, they are everywhere, practicing and playing in the José Jurado.
I go to the practice field a lot to try to improve my shots, at my age I can no longer demand great dexterity and shooting distance, but as long as my body holds up I will do my best to play better and that can only be achieved by practicing, shooting balls.
I must add that the club has improved with the arrival of Asian players en masse, a few years ago it was, according to my criteria, in a slight but constant decline, the practice field was almost an abandoned piece of land, the balls were broken or dirty and they were few, you had to wait sometimes to be able to get a bucket with 100 of them to go practice. Today that has improved remarkably, as well as the changing rooms, the clubhouse and all the facilities in general. The playing field was always good, and that was never stopped being taken care of.
In addition to the long shot practice area with markers at 50, 100, 150, and 200 yards, there is a slightly smaller area but also well signposted for practicing the drive without the risk of going over the back net, since behind it there is hole 8 and it would be dangerous for a ball to pass the limits of the practice field and injure a player. 200 yards is a distance easily overcome by a regular hitter with his drive and that extra 60 or 70 yards added by the sector dedicated to practicing with that club is a good thing and much safer.
Closer to the clubhouse there is a sector for practicing the chip, essential to achieve better scores and of course, before the output of hole 1, there is the putting green or putter practice area, where we all practice that shot so difficult that defines the score and the final result.
Yesterday I dedicated myself to practicing my shots with medium irons and a couple of hybrids that I have great confidence in, there was a little school of little boys and girls occupying a good part of the enabled gates but all in silence, something necessary to achieve a good concentration and ultimately better shots.
Before retiring I spent a good 20 minutes practicing chipping, there was an Asian lady also practicing her short shots and she did it in a great way, much better than me, I took the opportunity to watch her for a while and try to learn some of her techniques. In my last shots, I tried to execute in a similar way to what I had seen in her and I must admit that I began to leave the ball closer to the flag I was aiming for.
The afternoon was cloudy as I said at the beginning, the arrival of autumn was already noticeable, but as the afternoon progressed it improved and I finished the practice under a beautiful sunset sun.
