Barcelona Ends There Champions League Run With A Victory

FC Barcelona played their final group stage match in the Uefa Champions League last night against Viktoria Plzen away from home. Both teams had nothing to fight for as Barcelona were already confirmed to be going to the Europa League and Viktoria Plzen already knew their fate as they finished bottom of the table with zero points in the Champions League.

The lineups for Barcelona was different as it should be, Lewandoski was dropped out of the squad to be rested and also Pedri was part of the squad but was still rested. Barcelona scored the opening goal in the early 6th minutes of the first half, Ansu Fati took a shot inside the Viktoria Plzen box but the goalkeeper slowed the ball down but still did not stop the ball completely, Marcos Alonso was quick to capitalise on the loose ball and quickly played it into the goalposts and scored his first official goal for FC Barcelona.

Barcelona got their second goal in the 44th minute, Raphinha played a cross into the box to his teammate Jordi Alba who quickly headed the ball to Ferran Torres, Torres received the ball and played a shot into the goalposts and extended Barcelona lead to two goals. There were several appeals for an offside, so the VAR quickly checked and confirmed Ferran Torres was onside and gave the referee the approval to register the goal.

Viktoria Plzen scored their first goal of the match in the 51st minute of the second half from a penalty given by the referee, Pablo Torre (Barcelona midfielder)was booked for committing the foul that gave Viktoria Plzen the penalty. Tomas Chory from Viktoria Plzen took the penalty and scored for his team.

Barcelona where not done as they got another goal three minutes later, Ferran Torres led a counter attack as he dribbles his way passed two Viktoria Plzen players and played a pass to Raphinha, the Brazilian International received the ball, cuts it back and played a pass back to Ferran Torres who wasted no time and played a shot into the goalpost and scored his second goal of the match.

Viktoria Plzen found the net again in the 63rd minute, Adam Vikanova from Viktoria Plzen swung in a cross into the Barcelona box, Tomas Chory jumped and headed the ball into the goalpost and scored his second goal of the match.

Barcelona scored the last goal of the match in the 73rd minute, Raphinha played a lovely cross from the midfield to Pablo Torre who was on the the run, Torre received the ball and took a powerful shot into the goalpost and scored his first Champions League goal and first goal for Barcelona, unfortunately the goal came with a heavy price as he got injured and could not continue the rest of the match, I am still waiting for the club to release a statement on his condition just hope it's nothing too serious.

The match ended with the scoreline of 2-4, Barcelona won and took all three points(not that it matters). We wait till after the world cup and find out our opponent in the Europa League. Xavi has given his statement and said the squad will compete and go for the title. We hope so and wait and see how the team progresses next year in the competition.
