Barcelona Europa League Review
Hello sports fans, today was Barcelona debut in the UEFA Europa League after 18 years, since 2004 it's the first time the Catalan giant hasn't been involved in the knockout stage. Barcelona hosted their visitors Napoli at the camp nou, both sides mate back in the Champions League round of sixteen with Barcelona winning on a 4-2 aggregate.
Barcelona controlled the pitch they had more ball possession and created more chances than their opponent but could not get a goal, Pedri was close to opening the scoreline but the ball was wide of the goalposts. Napoli opened the scoreline at the 29th minute, Elam's cuts and made a through ball to Zielinski as he made the run down the box and fires a shot, Ter Stegen blocks the shot but the danger was still on as Zielinski fires another shot into the top corner of the goalposts and scored.
There were several appeals of an offside, the goal was checked by the VAR, unfortunately for Barca, the goal was given to Napoli as the lead by a goal. Ferran Torres had multiple chances to level the scoreline but it seemed he was not able to convert his chances into a goal. The first half ended as Napoli led with a goal.
Barcelona got lucky with the VAR decision in the second half a was awarded a penalty, Ferran Torres finally gets a goal as he played a low shot into the low corner of the goal post, Barcelona we're levelled. Barcelona still came up with several opportunities to complete their comeback but still could not get a goal.
Dembele came on later, but the atmosphere was not with him the fans kept on booing but that did not stop him from giving a better performance. The game changed when Dembele stepped on the pitch more chances were, created the fans booing him started to cheer up for him, I think it's high time the fans let the contract saga between Barcelona and Dembele be in the past, all we can do is support him and I'm sure he will deliver in games to come.
L.De.Jong was close to scoring a goal at the 86th minute, a cross for Dest into the box, L.De. Jong played an overhead ball but it went wide. Barcelona still kept the pressure on in the final minute, Ferran Torres missed an opportunity to score, I was pissed at his performance he had more goal attempts I could not deliver. Unfortunately, the match ended in a draw, the second leg will be played on the 24th of this month in Napoli's home stadium, looking forward to the match I have a feeling Barcelona will pull through and head to the next round.
So guys that will be all for now, See you all at the weekend fixtures, Thank you for stopping by.
