The UCL is back! Last night began the quarter-final of the UEFA champions league stage. It was an entertaining evening of fine football played. Gradually the biggest competition in Europe is just a month away from coming to an end, and I still don't have a clue which team will lift the trophy.

Liverpool who are currently on good form in the premier league and are currently a point away from defending champions Manchester City were hosted by Benfica in the Estadio da Luz stadium for the first leg of the quarter-final. In the first 10 minutes of the first half, Benfica made several attempts to grab an early goal but were unable to convert their chances into a goal.

However the match began to turn around and it didn't take long before Liverpool scored the first goal of the match in the 17th minute. Robertson delivered a fine corner kick into the box as his teammate Ibrahima Konate headed the ball into the goalpost scoring his first goal for the club in all competition.

Benfica was close to equalizing from a corner kick when Otamendi headed the ball but couldn't steer the ball into the goalpost. Liverpool scored their second goal of the night in the 34th minute. Arnold made a fine long through ball to Luiz Diaz who headed the ball to Mane. The Senegalese forward made a final finish by playing the ball into the goalpost. Arnold deserves credit for that through ball to Diaz. It was brilliant.

Benfica scored their first goal of the night in the 48th minute barely 3 minutes into the second quarter of the match. Rafa Silva led a charge down the Liverpool box and made a low cross into the box. Konate should have easily cleared the ball away but it slipped past him to Darwin Nunez as he wasted no time and played a shot into the goalpost, giving Benfica a chance for a comeback.

Their hopes for a comeback was crushed in the 87th minute as Liverpool scored their third goal of the night. Naby Keita played a through ball to Luiz Diaz who cut the ball from the goalkeeper and played it into the goalpost. Unfortunately, the match ended and Benfica could not get another goal. The second leg will be played at Anfield. Although away goals don't count anymore Benfica will have to score three goals to qualify for the semifinals and honestly, I don't think it will be possible for them. This is Liverpool and there is no way they will let down their guard. Anyways all the best for Benfica next week.

So guys that's all, for now, there are still more UCL matches to be played today, don't miss out.

Growing up I've always loved football. Played in primary, secondary and university.

Unfortunately I'm not into it like the guys.

Thanks for keeping us updated.
