Manchester City Vs Sevilla (Champions League Match Recap)

Source

Manchester City played against Sevilla in their last group stage match in the Uefa Champions League. Sevilla who are among the Spanish giants in Laliga Santander seems to be having a lot of issues this season in both La Liga and the Champions League. Sevilla are currently sitting in 18th place in the Laliga Santander table. It's surprising because I have never seen them play this bad and drop to the relegation zone.

In the Champions League they have only won one of their matches out of six played, draw two and lost three in the group stage, it's been tough for the Spanish side, there board should take action immediately in January transfer window and sign some players, they already got a new manager but still I don't think Jorge Sampaoli will deliver much but I might be wrong we just have to wait and see next year.

The starting lineup for Manchester City had some few changes, some of the first team players were rested and Pep brought in some Academy players which to my surprise played well like they were experienced players and my boy Haaland missed the fixture due to injury.

Sevilla scored the first goal of the match from a corner kick, Isco swung a cross into the box to his teammate Rafa Mir who headed the ball to the side net of the goalpost and gave Sevilla the lead before halftime. Manchester City bounced back in the 52nd minute of the second half, Juilan Alvarez from Manchester City played a through ball which cut the defense open leaving Reco Lewis with the ball, the young star took a powerful shot into the top corner of the goalpost and leveled the scoreline.

Manchester City completed their comeback in 73rd minute, De Bruyne from the midfield played a lovely through ball to Juilan Alvarez who was on the run, Alvarez took his time as he dribbled past the goalkeeper and played a low shot into the goalpost and gave Manchester City their first lead of the match.

Manchester City sealed their win at the 83rd minute, Juilan Alvarez pressured a Sevilla defender and made him lose the ball, Alvarez quickly got the ball and made a pass to Riyad Mahrez who wasted no time took a shot in the box and scored. Unfortunately Sevilla were unable to get any more goals and the referee blew his whistle to signify the end of the match.

Manchester finished top of the group with 14 points and Sevilla finished third of the group with 5 points which earned them a place in the Europa League next year.

So guys that will be all for now, thanks once again for stopping by.

They are called Europa merchants for a reason. This season their form both in the league and the champions league is bizarre. I know they love playing and winning the Europa league but this time around the competition will be tough.

If they are not able to get back their form before next year things could be really bad for them. I’ve hardly heard of Sevilla not being in the top 4 at the end of the season. 🤔
