Real Madrid Vs Villarreal (Match Recap)

Matchday 28th in the La Liga Santander just got a whole lot more interesting this weekend. Real Madrid lost at home to the yellow submarine( Villarreal) last night in the weekend futures which puts them 12 points behind FC Barcelona for the title race. Since Wednesday night my Twitter timeline has been buzzing with trolls from the Real Madrid fan base because Madrid beat Barcelona at the Spotify Camp Nou in the second leg of the Copa Del Rey competition.

The loss at Camp Nou does not bother me after all Barca beat them in the Spanish Super Cup final and two El Clasico in a row. It was the first time Real Madrid scored up to four goals since 1996 in an El Clasico match, while Barca has been doing it regularly. Barcelona also played without four of their key players against Madrid on Wednesday De Jong, Pedri, Christensen, and Dembele and I strongly believe if they had played on Wednesday Barca would have had a better chance to win the match.

Back to yesterday's fixture, Villarreal conceded the first goal in the 16th minute. Marco Asensio received a cross from Vinicius and played a shot on goal, the ball deflected off Pau Torres and went into the goalpost. Villarreal leveled the scoreline in the 38th minute. Giovani Lo Celso made a pass to Samuel Chukwueze who was standing at the edge of the box. Chukwueze received the ball, dribbled past Nacho, and played a shot into the goalpost.

Real Madrid did not waste time as they got their lead back just in the 48th minute of the second half. Dani Ceballos made a pass to Vinicius and the Brazilian dribbled past four Villarreal players and played a shot into the goalpost. The yellow submarines did not hold back as they leveled the scoreline in the 70th minute.

Samuel Chukwueze with the ball on his feet dribbled past a Madrid player and played a low cross into the box. Jose Luis Morales received the ball and fired a shot that got blocked by Militao but the danger was not over yet and Jose Luis Morales fired another shot, this time it went into the goal post.

Villarreal scored their third and last goal of the match in the 80th minute. Samuel Chukwueze from Villarreal dribbled past a Madrid player and took a shot outside the box, the ball curled into the goal post and that was the winning goal for Villarreal. Chukwueze was astonishing throughout the 90 minutes of the match and deserves all the credit for Villarreal's victory last night.

This season in La Liga Real Madrid has failed to beat Villarreal in their two encounters, it seems the yellow submarine has become a difficult opponent for Madrid. Barcelona has the opportunity to go 15 points off Real Madrid on Monday night if they beat Girona, I am sure Xavi and the boys will deliver and I look forward to the game. So guys thanks for stopping by and enjoy the rest of your day.
