The game gave Super Eagles coach assurance of his stay, Nigeria signed a 62 –year old Portuguese José Santos Peseiro. Nigeria 10-0 came after many years of such win which took place when Nigeria defeated Dahomey (former name of Benin Republic) 10-1 in a Kwame Nkrumah Cup match in Lagos on 28th November 1959.

We want to be the team at the top of the table, so we must fight hard against the opponents. Every match, we must commit ourselves fully to winning it. As I said earlier in the week, Nigeria have huge pedigree and they also have both quality and quantity of players. It is important that we select the best all the time to win the big games,” José Santos Peseiro.

The Super Eagles is expected to play their next match with Guinea-Bissau both home and away in September 2022.

I don't really see the hype in this game because as good as moral boosting the 10-0 over Sao Tome is, I know how our players can get easily carried away by that victory only to drop the standard in a more important game. I wasn't thrilled that we won by 10-0 even though the scoreline is flattering. It's against Sao Tome not Ghana or Cameroon...so their win didn't even impress me.
