Alan Niall Macpherson Mickel - Inspiring Story of a Scottish Lawyer

We all have heard the phrase "Never give up". Even when we sail through the worst time in our life never give up. This is the one line story of a Scottish Lawyer, who was one of the most successful lawyers in the country. I was very inspired when @coffeelovers published a small post in his actifit report.

His version of story can be read here

This was quite motivational, when I happened to read the news of Niall Mickel joining the board of Regtechtimes. This is one of the highly read news portal in the legal and compliance fraternity. After reading this post I felt I need to search for this person. And here is what I figured out.

Background of Alan Niall Macpherson Mickel

Niall Macpherson-Mickel was previously the senior partner of Hamilton Burns, (2001-2015) and in 2019 Niall Macpherson-Mickel qualified to transfer his jurisdiction and act in cross-border litigation cases by being called at the bar of Middle Temple as a Barrister. But this is all about his profession. There could be many other accolades to his professional life. But I was more interested in knowing his personal life.

Accident of Alan Nial Mickel

Alan Mickel, 35, was climbing in Auchinstarry Quarry near Kilsyth when he fell 45ft, shattering his pelvis and suffering a fractured hip, shoulder, coccyx and torn ligaments.

What happened was hugely significant for Macpherson. It made him re-evaluate a lot of things in his life. But he did not give up. Soon after the recovery, he started his climbing passion. Accidents change everything.

Those bad incidents change the lives. But he survived and not only survived but he also bounced back.

Mickel has had been climbing for more than 15 years at the time of the accident. Tackling two of Europe's toughest mountains has at the time had long been an ambition. But still he failed.

Despite the life changing injuries, he went on to qualify as a climbing instructor and ski guide and he succeeded in not only climbing routes on the Eiger and the Matterhorn, but also lots of other mountains in the Alps as well as the Himalayas.

25 years on from the accident, he still climbs and instructs others in the sport that he loves. !

Alan Niall Nickel's story teaches us that anything is possible in your life, but just don't lose the hopes and fight back. I have never had opportunity to see who he is but in my life it would be really a great thing to catchup with an inspirational personality.

Alan Niall Mickel - The true sportsman

Despite the long road to recovery, Macpherson Mickel was itching to get back out on the hills. It didn't put him off. He challenged the death. After recovering from the injury he not only returned back to the law practice but took the company to new heights. He bounced back.

He took the company from zero to 1.5 million pounds in no time. It was a huge achievement, it was huge bounce back. I am just hoping @cryptoandcoffee reads this and curates it.

Though he definitely became a more cautious edge when climbing now, it didn't even cross his mind to give it up. His story gives us lots of life lessons.
