March 1st is a very important date in Korea, and not only the South. 105 years ago in that day thousands of Koreans gathered together, announced the declaration of independence, and started the movement against Japanese rule on the Korean peninsula. It was the first large and organized movement of anti-japanese rule in Korea.
Korea was under Japanese rule for 35years, and it was a very harmful period in Korean history. Japanese authorities suppressed economical, political, and cultural and any other kind of development in Korea. Everyone who committed even minor violation of rules was severely punished.
