playing with lights : June 26 2025

it was raining yet again. it has been raining recently but there was just no stopping this time; it continued to rain till late night. and what choice do i have? no nightwalk for tonight. i guess when you are left with nothing to do is when creativity strikes the most.

as i was saying, it rained the whole day. and i was trying to take pictures of the rain. here are the results.

putting my phone against the glass doors of the balcony, i happened to pass over an area with a raindrop outside. that created an unexpected splash of colorful patterns. with some "pro" mode setting changes, here is the best in my eyes. i loved how we still see the tall building on the left and the distorted lights on the right. the distorted lights were angular that they too looked like outlines or light sketches of a building. i was so amazed by this discovery and took lots of shots. i eventually settled at ISO 50, shutter speed of 2 seconds, and WB 10000K.

i loved the picture so much that i remembered of the "lights" photo contest wherein i submitted an entry just two days ago. what i had here was surely a play on lights! i loved my previous entry, but this coincidental raindrop photo was pure joy to me. so here i immediately contacted @friendlymoose regarding the resubmission. luckily it was a relatively easy fix. regardless of the outcome, i would have gladly shared the picture beaming with joy just like how a child discovered some new toy.

below are some other shots.

this one was taken with the same setting but the focus was on the droplet. this too was equally beautiful but the background was all blurred. and the light sketches change the moment you change focus. this looked dreamy and i loved it for that reason.

now here was another take, there really was no telling on what shape the lights will do. by this point, i wouldn't mind staying indoors and taking more photos.

this one was on an area where rain water was slithering down the glass leaving a column of wet area. the light patterns were just subtle but still pretty.

and then i realized that i haven't made any cardio progress for the day yet. so off to the gym i went with a heavy heart. i was really like a child whose new toy was taken away. i had an hour walking session on the treadmill and was constantly thinking of the pictures the whole time. i eventually got distracted to this cooking show in netflix.

at the end of the day, i felt happy at this discovery.
