small wins : October 1 2025

here is what housemate js got after spending 600 yen for this claw machine. she got it after 2 tries, what a lucky girl. but here is how it all began.

housemate js initially shared this reel about an in game character figure which was sold via a gacha. the reel was taken back in cebu, and so my mind went to "that must have also been sold here in japan". and so the adventure started.

we first passed trough ueno park, the gateway to the city. at least it served as a gateway for me because i have to pass through the park to get to the populous city.

we were on the northwest side of the park, this metallic installation shaped like a head greeted us immediately. i tried to say hello, it did not even blink.

the usual way to akihabara. here we are with the apple tile again. housemate js got impressed with the design.

i remembered how i was impressed by a "cat" on the roof, this time i saw a "rabbit". this "rabbit" was on a pedestal looking down at us mere mortals. i had no clue what this shop does but i really hope that it is not a restaurant.

finally, we reached the akihabara main streets. anime figures were at the center stage. but there were also so many other things like the labubus and some other pop mart dolls. sorry but i really don't get this craze and would not want to jump on that wagon, these items were just too expensive even when pre-loved (second hand).

i have often seen this fresh orange vending machine, but it is my first time seeing an apple version. i wonder how they juice the apple. you can freshly squeeze an orange, and a machine can surely do that. but an apple? how do you take the juice from an apple in the first place?

we finally found a shop with lots of claw machines: some places call it a crane game. i tried getting this rice bowl keychain, tried 3 times but failed. good thing that i have not much coins with me or i would have continued until i finally get one. i wonder how much i would have spent.

but housemate js was on a different search, she was searching for big and huggable stuff, i pointed at a big and probably huggable man who passed by, she called me crazy. this duck was the first victim, 3 or 4 tries of 150 yen each but the duck does not want to go home. she was just too heavy for the weak claws.

teletubbies looked really funny now, i had no clue how i found them adorable back then. i blame my television quality for that.

at the last shop, housemate js finally got the cover photo of this post. as for me, i have not found what i originally came here for. but i did found the acne patch i was looking for the other day. that is still a win, right?
