tokiwa shokudo - the home away from home : October 11 2025
we have been eyeing this shop for quite some time now. the last time we went they were closed. the shop had a high rating in google, quite rare for shops around our area. so this rainy day we tried our luck in this shop.

it was a family owned cafeteria, tempura seemed to be a specialty. we had chicken, shrimp and fish tempura. that chicken was the most tender i have eaten, i wonder how they cooked it. it was a lovely restaurant.
as a family owned restaurant, they had all the freedom on what they serve. they even had a notice regarding the fish they used, aji (mackerel), that sometimes the fish may not come so a different type of fish might be used. fishes might also be of different sizes so it is never expected to be the same for all.

the shop is very unassuming, but very hearty and homey. i now understand why the rating is such.
it is in restaurants like these where i get to experience simple menus.
