Point to be considered when laying an athletic field.

Accessibility: In choosing a sport for the field consider how effective or accessible the field is going to serve the general public. Those without bicycles, cars or lorries should not be reterred because of the distance. Choose a central place.

Gradient: The ground should flat and where not possible, the gradient across the running track should not be more than 1 inch to 100 ins. It should not be steep.

Cost: Choose a place where the cost of travelling will not be too high. Where leveling is not very effectively done, avoid publishing the records of performance as this wl be false.

Size: The size of the field should be determined by the following: Area for field events, the actual running tracks, spectators barriers, warming up space and dressing, showers and parking space.

Water Supply: Water is very necessary for the running track-damping the jumping pits; watering the running tracks; water the grass; and wind breaks; for competitors and spectators. Where there is no taps,the spring should not be very far from the ground.

Sun: The position of the sun is important. Events like high jump and races should not be finished against the sun. The place of spectators must be considered with the setting sun.

Nature of soil: Light soil i.e. sandy soil is better than because light soil is easily drained.

Direction of the wind: Finishing the race against the wind is usually accepted from a record point of view. Never finish a race with the wind. If a race is finished with the wind, such record is false because it is wind assisted. Where possible let the field be placed where the winds blow across.
