Saludos estimados lectores, hoy continuamos con la tarea que nos hemos propuesto, dar a conocer los fundamentos básicos del fútbol americano de manera que los lectores puedan ahondar en sus conocimientos para comprender la esencia del juego, también este post servirá al lector avanzado que ya maneja la dinámica del juego, y solo desea mantenerse al día y actualizado del acontecer que se desarrolla a lo largo de la temporada, para ello creemos apropiado seguir con la descripción de las posiciones que conforman la ofensiva de un equipo.

Antes de entrar en materia haremos una breve descripción de cómo se inicia una serie ofensiva, para ello hablaremos de lo que sucede previo al inicio del partido, con una moneda previamente escogida que tenga un anverso y un reverso, el referí del encuentro (se identifica porque usa una gorra de color blanco) se reúne con los mariscales de campo de cada equipo, o con los jugadores que el entrenador en jefe designe para la acción de tirar al aire una moneda.
Este volado como tradicionalmente se le conoce consta en que los jugadores escojan una faz de la moneda, el que gane tendrá la potestad de patear o recibir el balón, es decir decidir si comienza a la ofensiva o a la defensiva, el perdedor escogerá la cancha correspondiente, una vez decidido qué equipo comienza la serie ofensiva, el equipo contrario se formará en el terreno de juego a la defensiva, estas formaciones se llevan a cabo a lo largo de una línea imaginaria que recibe el nombre de línea de scrimmage o de golpeo, es a partir de esta línea
que el jugador ubicado en la posición de centro (C) inicia la ofensiva, la cual está en la mayoría de los casos previamente acordada con el mariscal de campo, entonces se jugara según como esté formada la defensiva, el pase del balón realizado por parte del jugador ubicado en la posición de centro recibe el nombre de snap, esta acción ofensiva en la línea de golpeo inicia con un pase corto o largo, también llamado snap corto o largo. Para dar inicio a la serie ofensiva deben estar alineados 7 jugadores ofensivos en la línea de golpeo antes de iniciar el ataque, de lo contrario el umpire marcará una penalidad que costará yardas al equipo infractor.
