요즘 길거리를 걷다보면 만개한 밤나꽃이 많이 보입니다. 비가 오랫동안 오지 않고 땅이 매말라 꽃이 시들 시들할줄 알았는데 이 나무는 생각과 다르게 아래 사진과 같이 싱싱하게 피었습니다.

인터넷 자료를 찾아보니 이 나무는 가뭄에 강하더군요. 백과사전에 따르면 이 나무는 뿌리를 깊이 내리므로 건조에 강하며 여러 토양에도 잘 적응하나 지하수위가 너무 높으면 수명이 짧아진다고 하네요.

그리고 지형에 따라 동해와 밤나무줄기마름병의 발생 정도가 다른데 동향보다 서향인 곳에서 심하다고 하네요.
