Hola amigos, buenas vibras para todos.

Hello friends, good vibes to all.

This weekend after a break of almost a month the sport of speed returned to the arena in European/Asian lands and we landed in Azerbaijan with its street circuit that people like so much, at least it is one of my favorites. The reason why it attracts my attention is that it is a track which can be extremely complicated to drive because of its narrow streets in certain places and curves but at the same time it is one that allows overtaking thanks to its great straights and if you are tough you can also do it in a couple of curves at the beginning of it. In addition to this it must be said that we were in a weekend where there would be a sprint race which for this season would change the format a little.

Personally I don't like sprint races, I don't know why but I don't see any sense in them, to make a mini race of 17 laps, in this case, that is not going to influence anything for the race on Sunday is something that I find difficult to understand sincerely, I just don't see the attraction. The thing is that there were changes, what? - Well, qualifying is on Friday and this will be the one taken into account for Sunday's race, on Saturday there would be another mini qualifying session for the sprint race whose final results would not influence the positions on the starting grid of the grand prix as it was done before because as I said, the pole position on Friday will be taken into account. With these changes I don't like the format as before the sprint race could have made some sense but now...

Charles Leclerc, the fastest driver both in pole position and in the sprint shootout and still could not win either of the two. I find the performance of the Monegasque very curious because in the qualifying sessions he sweeps in a huge way, on Friday in Q3 he did exactly the same time as Verstappen until he managed to lower a couple of hundredths to take the pole and on Saturday if the advantage was a little more noticeable but this time who followed him closely was Checo Perez. The reason behind this is that Leclerc is incredibly fast, he is a sprinter in corners but when he has to compete in straights against the Red Bulls that is where he loses a lot and this was reflected in both races.

The sprint race started with the Monaco driver leading but both second and third had the two Red Bulls and many of us know what that means. At the beginning we would see some struggle between Verstappen and Russell, a Leclerc who was looking to take off thanks to the clean air and even Checo who was hunting. 17 laps and in the fourth a Safety Car comes out. Once the SC is removed the Red Bull show begins and we see how Checo at the first opportunity he had overtook Leclerc without any problems to take the lead, a position he would not lose. It is true that the fight was close but it was one that was never enough for the Ferrari driver to even resist Perez. Checo's dominance and another disappointment for Leclerc.

As I said, none of this influenced what we would see the next day beyond a distribution of points among the top eight. We arrived to Sunday, race day where we would see again Leclerc leading the grid, second Verstappen, third Checo and further back Carlos Sainz, Hamilton and Alonso. The lights went out and the race started "quiet" as there were no major movements in the top positions at least until the DRS was enabled and just on the third lap Verstappen almost with his eyes closed overtook a Leclerc who could not do anything before the power of those Red Bull cars. Three laps later history would repeat itself but this time it would be the Checo who would leave in evidence the Ferrari driver who was already third.

Lap 10 and everything would change. De Vries would be through so the Safety Car would be deployed, the thing is that before that happened Verstappen would enter the pits, a bit hasty if you ask me, to change to hard tires since the medium ones did not perform much. Once the car was out Checo would be first, Leclerc second and Verstappen who was the leader would drop to third place. The thing is that on the same lap of the restart the Dutchman would be second and again Leclerc would lose another position. From this point on the race entered a monotony almost until the end in which we would not see much, I think it was a race that was based on pure tire management strategy because on track some might say it was a bit boring.

What can we say then? - We can say that Checo's pace throughout the weekend was overwhelming, but especially yesterday. Many say that if it had not been for the SC he would not have won, probably, but it is also true that he would have given Verstappen a lot of fight. We must not take away merits to the Mexican who had a great race with an extraordinary handling of the tires, without fear of being wrong I think he is one of the best drivers in that department, the way he takes care of the tires, few get it. He managed to take both the sprint and the grand prix, it was undoubtedly a good weekend for him and for Red Bull who got the 1-2 on the podium to continue adding important points.

Fernando Alonso continues to score points, I think he missed a couple of laps to take the third place from Leclerc as the Asturian came with a devilish pace in the last laps, in the end he finished fourth. Sainz fifth and Hamilton sixth. The Mercedes certainly seems not to be able to compete with the Red Bull or Ferrari, in each award is more noticeable, its competitor in theory would be Aston Martin but I do not see clear that rivalry. Stroll seventh and Russell eighth. Unlike what the teams' leaderboard says, I think that Mercedes is not at the level they expected to be.

Honor a quien honor merece.

Honor to whom honor is due. With these results Checo Perez is 6 points behind Max Verstappen for the championship fight, a fight that at the beginning one would not expect to happen since one always thinks of Leclerc, Hamilton or because of the way things are going why not Alonso. The reality is that the Aston Martin driver is third with 60 points followed by Hamilton with 48. The Ferrari drivers are fifth and sixth with 34 and 28 points respectively. Little by little we are seeing a trend that as the season progresses will become irreversible. Red Bull is in another league, another galaxy, while on earth Ferrari, Mercedes and Aston Martin will compete for second place. See you Sunday in Miami with another promising weekend.

Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
