(ESP-ENG) El fútbol y sus mentiras!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
This week, the first teams to be invited to the quarterfinals of the current edition of the Champions League were decided, being Benfica, Chelsea, Milan and Bayern the four clubs that got their ticket to the quarterfinals. Personally, I only saw two matches of the four in question and what they showed me is what I emphasize in the title of this publication, that soccer is often a deception, a lie. Why do I say this? - Actually for two very opposite reasons. First, we have a Chelsea team that is practically hopeless, winning an incredible game and playing the best possible way against an unrecognizable BVB and a PSG team that is no longer a surprise but is still pitiful and the French team is one of the biggest lies in modern soccer.
I do not talk much about Benfica although I should because it is obvious what happened, some Portuguese that I have been saying since the first rounds that they are in an impressive state of grace and continue to demonstrate that they have numbers and a lot of game to fight until the end. I do not know if they will be able to give the blow on the table and generate a surprise, everything will depend on the quarters, but yes, I can put a chip for it. I can't talk about Milan because I honestly didn't see anything of them but judging by the results and how they are doing in Serie A, they qualified without much noise in gray matches and I doubt they will advance beyond the quarterfinals but beware, the ball is round and anything can happen.
Bayern - PSG. The second leg of the round of 16 was played at the Allianz Arena with the series tilted by the minimum in favor of the Bavarians in a match that had been quite quiet in Paris. The Germans wanted to make themselves respected at home while the French wanted to advance to the quarterfinals for the third time since the round of 16 seems to be cursed for them. The match started quite evenly, with chances on both sides, few but there were some. Many times it was tight in midfield but in general terms it was more Bayern's with PSG opting for counterattacks. So much so that Vitinha had the 1-0 but De Ligt saved from Sommer on the edge of the goal. Musiala also had a very clear chance for the Germans. The first 45 minutes were very even.
The second half was something else. A BAILE of Bayern against a PSG that looked like a fifth-rate team. Messi and Mbappé disconnected, Verrati a disaster (guilty of the first goal), Fabian Ruiz also had a lousy night, the reality is that it is the same as always, the same story of previous years, a team that plays nothing, there is no clarity or an established way of playing, in defense they are a chaos, holes everywhere, I repeat: a fifth rate team. And I am glad that this is happening because it dismantles the theory that at the end of money you can win things; if you ask me I have no idea what they have to do, I guess they have to build a credible and sustainable project in the medium and long term because signing for the sake of signing is not the solution.
And what can we say about Bayern. Despite the fact that they are not having the best season, the soccer display they showed yesterday was extraordinary. Alphonso Davies and Musiala were the engine of that team, one on the left flank and the other on the inside were the spark plug of attack in the second 45 minutes. Something that surprised me was the substitution, Sane, Mané, Cancelo and Gnabry came on and revolutionized the game. A lot of depth in this team, I don't want to imagine if they were having a good season or at least one that they are used to. Bayern inside and PSG, being the biggest lie in contemporary soccer.
Chelsea - BVB. Here something unthinkable happened and that is that the roles were reversed. The English team, the one that has invested millions in signings and whose performance in 2023 has been disastrous in the Premier League, gave a soccer lesson at Stanford Bridge. They came with the series against them and I personally saw them more out than in, especially after the first leg in Germany, which was terrible. But this sport is unpredictable. The thing is that the 90 minutes were Chelsea's with a brilliant Cocurella who, with Chilwell's help, did whatever they wanted on that side of the pitch. But Kovacic in the midfield was also vital for the Blues' performance on Tuesday.
The first half could have been 2-0 if a great goal by Havertz had not been disallowed, but in the end it was Sterling who scored. A rebellious Chelsea with a lot of desire and perseverance is what we saw in both halves. But everything went their way, they were awarded a penalty, they missed it, it was retaken for encroachment and with it came the 2-0; I can tell you that Chelsea's night was a rounded one by all accounts. But it is what I said, this pass is a prize for the great game they played because yes, they gave a good show, they won the game they had to win, the third of the year if my memory does not fail me and so Potter breathes a little, the Champions League has a lot of weight so I think that if they had been out and this gentleman would not be in charge of this team.
As for BVB, it was a disappointment because in the first leg they had been far superior, not to the point of dazzling, but they did play better. They came to England with the task of keeping the result or at least getting one more, which Marco Reus had in the first half with a free kick but it was not possible. If Chelsea won the game they had to win, the Germans lost the game they should not have lost and they were undefeated this year, hence the lies of soccer also apply here, the result does not go hand in hand with the performance of both teams so far this year and yet here we are, talking about Chelsea in the quarterfinals of the Champions League. For these reasons this sport is what it is.
Of the four clubs that I can see the most confident and if a catastrophe does not happen is Benfica, at least it was the most convincing. The power of Bayern is crazy and they have been very inconsistent but you always have to put a chip on their shoulder. And Chelsea, whatever happens from here on will be a surprise for me, just the fact that they are in the quarterfinals is a feat that no one had noted, no one counted on them, so yes, everything that comes will be a gain for them.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.

Saludos amigo!
