El día de ayer se corrió la octava carrera de la presente temporada de la Formula 1 en uno los circuitos callejeros del calendario, me refiero al Gran Premio de Azerbaiyán. En lo personal esta es una de las pistas que más me gustan porque es muy variopinta en el sentido de que tiene sus partes angostas y lentas pero también grandes y largas rectas que dan la oportunidad de adelantar y hacer gala de la potencia de los monoplazas dándonos a nosotros los fanáticos una gran espectáculo, cuando ninguna novedad ocurre claro está. Si bien es verdad que ayer no se vieron accidentes lo que si pudimos ver fueron fallas mecánicas por doquier lo que sin dudas afectaron y afectarán el futuro del campeonato.
Yesterday the eighth race of the current Formula 1 season took place in one of the street circuits of the calendar, I am referring to the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Personally, this is one of the tracks I like the most because it is very varied in the sense that it has its narrow and slow parts but also big and long straights that give the opportunity to overtake and show off the power of the cars giving us fans a great show, when nothing new happens of course. While it is true that yesterday there were no accidents, what we did see were mechanical failures everywhere, which undoubtedly affected and will affect the future of the championship.
Y es que lo de Ferrari no tiene nombre, es un equipo que parecía haber comenzado la temporada muy bien equipada y en forma, tanto pilotos como carros, pero poco a poco todas esas sensaciones se han ido diluyendo al punto de que a estas alturas están a 80 puntos de la punto por el campeonato de equipos y Leclerc quien por momentos fue el líder absoluto se ubica de tercero, por debajo del Checo Pérez y el líder actual Max Verstappen. Esto tiene que ser un mantra pero con Ferrari no hay que fiarse, si no es una cosa será otra: los pilotos, el carro, la estrategia, la lluvia, etc. Siempre habrá algo que condicione las carreras para ellos.

Los sábados, al igual que en los últimos 4, comenzaban bien para Ferrari y los suyos donde vimos a un Leclerc aplastar los tiempos para llevarse la Pole Position en una lucha que veníamos observando desde las practicas libres contra el piloto de la Red Bull, Sergio Pérez. Fue un toma y dame en donde terminó como vencedor el monegasco para así llevarse lo que sería su cuarta clasificación de las últimas cinco, sin duda una verdadera locura lo que hace Charles los sábados, lastima que suceda lo que ya todos sabemos en las carreras los domingos.

Otra de las cosas interesantes es que el Checo Pérez está siendo muy rápido últimamente al punto que las luchas muy rara vez se dan entre Verstappen vs cualquier otro de Ferrari sino que es el mexicano quien está demostrando tener velocidad por lo menos en prácticas como en la clasificación de los sábados. Pero que tampoco esto sirve de nada si el papel del Checo dentro de Red Bull siempre será estar un escalón por debajo del neerlandés, lo dije en su momento y lo mantengo, no veo a los de Red Bull cambiar de opinión al respecto, su primer piloto, el principal será siempre Max Verstappen y prueba de ello también fue la carrera de ayer.
Another interesting thing is that Checo Perez is being very fast lately to the point that the fights are very rarely between Verstappen vs any other Ferrari driver but it is the Mexican who is proving to have speed at least in practice as in qualifying on Saturdays. Y eso que hablamos anteriormente lo vimos apenas en la partida de la carrera cuando el Checo en una muy buena movida se posicionó por delante de Leclerc para ponerse al mando del premio y demostrar que él no está para ser el segundo pero claro, una cosa sean sus aspiraciones y otra muy distinta sean los planes del equipo de cara al resto del campeonato. Pérez en punta, Leclerc de segundo quien buscaba presionar el líder pero este de a ratos parecía alejarse cada vez más y de tercero Verstappen quien estaba comenzando a rebajar la ventaja y así esperar el DRS para hacer el trabajo y sobrepasar al de Mónaco, no sería fácil pero si hay un conductor temerario ese es Max.

Pasaban las vueltas y el panorama seguía siendo el mismo hasta que llega la vuelta 9 en donde vimos la primera catástrofe de Ferrari, una falla mecánica en el auto de Sainz que lo obligaría a salir de la carrera y con él las esperanzas de puntear. Lo del español en esta temporada es otro tema digno de hablar, si no es la falta de confianza con la que comenzó la temporada son estos problemas que merman aún más ánimos, por decirlo así, lo que al final se traduce en más problemas para el equipo italiano. Esto ocasionaría un Virtual Safety Car lo que llevaría a Leclerc a los pits para cambiar sus cauchos a duros, una estrategia que sorprendentemente le daría la razón a Ferrari a pesar lo temprano de la carrera. Es que las temperaturas en Bakú eran una locura y el degaste se estaba viendo muy rápido.

Vuelta 15 y es donde vemos lo hablado anteriormente, las ordenes directas del equipo Red Bull al Checo fueron: "No Fighting" y con esto el mexicano dejaba pasar al Verstappen para así lideran el Gran Premio de Azerbaiyán. También es verdad que Max venía mucho más rápido e iba a ser cuestión de tiempo que lo pasara pero prefirieron no llegar a esos extremos y hacer el traspaso sin tanta lucha. Otro golpe más, creo yo, a la moral de Pérez quien lógicamente no sabemos si iba a ganar pero por lo menos las intenciones si es muy posible que las tuviera, nadie corre para quedar segundo, dependiendo del contexto claro está. Con esta movida el 1-2 era de Red Bull pero con un Leclerc de tercero quien venía con un ritmo demoledor y que en cuestión de tiempo daría caza al segundo.

Un problema en la unidad de potencia del auto de Leclerc lo llevaría al mismo destino que su compañero, abandonar el premio y ahora si, toda aspiración posible de Ferrari se iría por la borda gracias a dos problemas en los que claramente los pilotos no tuvieron nada que ver. Después se conoció que la falla en el carro de Charles fue en el motor de combustión interna el cual había sido modificado desde España. Ahora viene la gran pregunta, que hará Ferrari? - pondrá el viejo ICE o se arriesgarán y se irán por otro de los modificados?... mucho que pensar para los italianos en esta semana.

Desde este punto en adelante la carrera entraría en una espiral en donde no se verían más movimientos importantes. Verstappen muy solido liderando el premio, el Checo cómodo igualmente en la segunda posición y de tercero al quien están llamando "Mr Consistency" ya que en TODAS las carreras ha sido el único piloto en quedar siempre en las primeras cinco posiciones. Hay que admitir que el trabajo de Russell viene siendo muy bueno para ser el primer año con la gente de Mercedes. Otro que tuvo una gran carrera fue Hamilton quien partió de séptimo y terminó de cuarto en una carrera que supuso para él un esfuerzo físico descomunal por el tema de rebote en su carro y lo mucho que ese detalle afecta en el cuerpo de los pilotos.

En fin, buena carrera para los McLaren quienes puntearon después de varios premios, un Vettel de sexto quien volvió a demostrar que Bakú se le da siempre muy bien y un Alonso quien mintió a su equipo por la radio para jugar un poco con los McLaren y así estos no pudieran sobrepasarlo, como si Alonso fuese un recién llegado a la F1. Viejo zorro al fin.
Anyway, a good race for the McLaren team, who topped after several awards, a sixth place Vettel who showed again that Baku is always very good for him and an Alonso who lied to his team on the radio to play a little with the McLaren team so they could not overtake him, as if Alonso was a newcomer to F1. 150 puntos para Verstappen y su consolidación en la punta del campeonato, un Checo que con su segundo lugar remontó a Leclerc para ponerse de segundo con 129 y el monegasco cayó al tercer puesto con 116. Si las cosas no mejoran para Ferrari me temo que ya el campeonato se va a ir decantando para Red Bull aunque falte un buen tramo todavía. Esta carrera puede ser definitoria al final de temporada, se acordarán de mi. De momento nos vemos la semana que viene con el gran premio de Canadá, el circuito Gilles Villeneuve.

Buena publicación amigo de lo que fue este gran premio, la verdad que lo de Ferrari es decepcionante, yo que soy fanático de esta escudería y veía como por fin en esta temporada iría a ser la temporada de aquella época en donde fueron ampliamente dominantes, son 2 realidades en la cual una no tiene que ver con la otra, en las practicas y en las pruebas de clasificación es una y en la carrera termina de ser otra... espero mejoren las cosas pero con esa diferencia de puntos es un poco complicado y por nivel mostrado de los de Red-bull se ve imposible, saludos hermano y gracias por mostrarnos este tipo de publicaciones. éxitos!

Ferrari ha venido de más a menos, impresionante como siempre pasa algo con ellos. Yo solo espero, por el bien de la competencia y el espectáculo, se recuperen y nos brinden lo que vimos al inicio de la temporada!
Canadá también es un circuito muy favorable a este auto Red Bull, me parece que Ferrari la va a tener muy difícil en este próximo fin de semana, es un golpe muy fuerte a la moral, pero no hay que descartarlos, ya que la temporada es larga.
Lo de Russell es destacable, me recuerda a Ricciardo en 2014. Y lo de Pérez también es muy bueno, habría que ver como van las cosas en lo que resta de temporada dentro de Red Bull.
Una lástima lo de Sainz, esperemos que al menos pueda ganar su primer GP este año.
Ha sido un Gran Premio bastante interesante, pero debo ser honesto, esperaba mucho más espectáculo.

Yo también esperaba más. La carrera llegó a un punto en donde se volvió monótona.
Y si la temporada es larga afortunadamente, esperemos que Ferrari ponga orden en su casa porque si no... Red Bull tendrá el camino libre.
