(ESP-ENG) El mercado de invierno, está siendo efectivo? // The winter market, is it being effective? [Opinion]
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
As we all know, at the moment there is the well-known winter market, which ends on January 31. Usually it is not a market where there are big movements since we are in full season and the teams are already formed and thought to dispute the rest of it but there are injuries, there are players who are not seeing minutes in their teams and in the end a reinforcement never hurts.
In recent days there have been certain movements that invite us to think that this market, more than a tactic to reinforce, which it is, is a possible escape valve for those players who are not being at all productive on the court. Let's talk a bit today about some of those signings and my opinion about the changes of air that are being generated in recent days.
The first one I would like to talk about is the Brazilian Philippe Coutinho who landed again in the Premier League but this time to wear the shirt of Aston Villa, a team that is being managed by Steven Gerrard, former teammate of the Carioca in Liverpool. I have always thought that Coutinho is a real crack, one of the best in Brazilian soccer, but in recent years he has not been able to find his place.
He played for Bayern and then came to Barcelona, for the second time, and his stay was a real disaster. I don't know if it was a matter of comfort or simply that Xavi didn't want to count on him, but the reality is that he was being wasted in the Catalan team. It was enough to change environment and arrive again in England, the country where he shone, for the magic to return and in less than fifteen minutes he scored a goal and assisted another. When a player is not happy, it shows. When a player is not comfortable, it shows. I think Coutinho can redeem himself and return to being the crack that everyone expects him to be.
Another one of the big news in recent days is the signing of Italian Lorenzo Insigne to the ranks of Toronto FC, a team in the MLS. The truth is that I found it quite surprising because we are talking about a starting striker in the Italian national team, in top physical condition and who was in the elite of world soccer, meaning Europe. We could think that Napoli is having a bad time but it is not so or that he is not seeing minutes but it is not the case either.
Insigne is 30 years old, one of the best stages in a player, so what was the reason? - The truth is that I think it was economic and that the MLS is a good place to retire. If everything goes well, he will have about 4 years left at a good level and what better way than to do it in a quiet soccer without so much wear and tear. In addition, all that the Italian can bring to his new club is important: a high level on the field due to the vast experience he has, he is a guarantee of goals and their creation and above all leadership. Undoubtedly a good signing for Toronto, who will be able to count on Lorenzo from July 2022, that is, at the end of the current season.
We could not fail to talk about one of the jewels of Spanish soccer, Ferran Torres and his return to Spain but this time with the blaugrana shirt; I say return because in the past he wore the colors of Valencia. Torres comes from Manchester City where he also suffered a serious injury that kept him away from the field for the last three months, since October he did not step on a lawn until the day of the semifinal of the SuperCopa of Spain where Barcelona lost against Real Madrid.
The Valencian is a player that Barca likes very much in view of the lack of goal that the club is presenting, his numbers with the Spanish national team are very good for example, in addition to the fact that he comes from being coached by Guardiola. I understand the latter as a plus because Pep's soccer is closely linked to Xavi's, they came from the same school and therefore I am convinced that Ferran, as soon as he gets into a rhythm, will be a very important piece for Barcelona.
As it is already well known, the Newcastle team changed owners and passed into the hands of some Saudis who have lots and lots of money and that is what we are apparently seeing in this market. While it is true that they have not signed a big name yet, they are already preparing for the rest of the season and for the next ones. Two names have already arrived, Kieran Trippier, one of the best defenders in world soccer, from Atletico Madrid and Chris Wood, a New Zealander with a strong presence in the box who comes from Burnley in England.
What is the ultimate goal of this team? - To try to avoid relegation, and that is what the new owners are planning to do by making signings. In this case, the winter transfer window, which is coming to an end, could be a perfect opportunity for them to save the season and stay in the top flight.
So to answer the initial question, is it finally being effective? - At the moment I would say yes, as long as the signings are made with head and not at the tip of the wallet and that is what we are seeing in this market. But at the end of the day we will know if it was 100% effective if all the objectives set by the teams were successfully achieved.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡Hugs to all, see you next time!
