(ESP-ENG) El rey del Rock and Roll sigue siendo uno // The King of Rock and Roll is still one!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
A few days ago I decided to watch the biopic of part of Elvis Presley's life, which by the way if you haven't seen it I invite you to do so because it is really very good, and it is one that made me think a lot about who he was, how he became the musical phenomenon he was and how incredibly good he was on stage. I've always been a big fan of Elvis but these movies for some strange reason, I think it's nostalgia, make you suddenly start listening to his great songs again and part of that is what this post will be about, we will see some of his best songs for me at the same time we talk about him a little bit.
Elvis was a supremely talented guy with an innate natural talent for music but above all to move and sing, his love for his fans took him many times to exceed and reach the limit but that did not matter to him. Of the things I like most about him I think is the intensity and feeling with which he sang some of his songs, in fact there is one that I will show you that he does it without being able to stand up and also the quality of his chest voice is of an impressive magnitude. A real pity that he passed away so young, he was only 42 years old, but as you well know the life of some musicians can be very chaotic and his was an example of that. But well, let's take a look at some of his musical gems.
- Can't Help Falling In Love
It is impressive the lack of knowledge that exists around this song by the fact that many people do not know that the author was Elvis Presley, I have even heard that they believed that UB40 with their version of the 90's were the real authors and not friends, although it is true that version sounded a lot the real master was Elvis. The lyrics of this song are very simple but extremely powerful and it has something in the melody that makes me like it to absurd levels, I think it could easily be one of the great songs of contemporary music. He used this song for one of his many comebacks, remember that his professional and personal life was a bit complicated, which he did on a television channel. This was controversial because in principle it was a Christmas special but Elvis did not feel comfortable singing those things so he decided to do literally whatever he wanted, in the end that special was a success and catapulted him back to the top. The video I share with you is from that day.
- Suspicious Minds
This is another of his great songs and the interesting thing here is that it was not originally a song for Elvis, in fact another singer recorded it and as it was a resounding failure they decided to give it to Presley. Such was the success of this song that it was the song that truly marked his comeback after the program I told you about before and it is considered one of the best songs in history. Talking a little about him, he had a manager, Tom Parker or as he was known in that world Colonel Parker, who was the one who discovered him and later helped him to be who he is but at what price? - Parker was a person who took advantage of Elvis and it is more than demonstrated of his financial abuse towards the singer, which led to the fact that there were always differences and that is why he sometimes stayed away from the stage. But well, these things happen a lot in music unfortunately and it seems that they are very difficult to avoid. Elvis could have been bigger than he was, if that's even possible, if it hadn't been for the mismanagement he had.
- Jailhouse Rock
There is something that many people don't know about Elvis and that is his influence. The way he sings but most of all the way he moves has a reason for being and that is that when he was very young he went to live with his mother in a neighborhood of African American people, in that place there was a Baptist church, as I said, and when he saw those voices singing gospel it was like a sign that would mark him for the rest of his life. If you see the way Elvis sings here at Jailhouse Rock and dances on stage is a copy of everything he saw in Memphis from the artists of that city, so much so that B.B. King was his ultimate guide and reference. This led to the fact that for a time the way he made music was seen as illegal because in the United States racism was at its peak and the "leaders" of those times said that to dance in such a way was to do it as a black person would do it. Elvis didn't care and kept doing it, he defied authority on more than one occasion which led him to enlist in the army for a couple of years in exchange for not going to jail. Elvis was not who he was only because of his music but because of the passion he had for it, he really loved to sing on stage.
- Burning Love
Another of the great gems of Elvis' repertoire. What I like about this song is the brass that you hear in it, always but always good trumpets and trombones will sound perfect if they are used with a sense and with subtlety. This song talks about how much he likes a woman and how she makes him feel every time they are together. Elvis' songs always have a theme and many of them revolve around women and his love for them, reflected both with his wife Priscilla and with his fans every time he performed live; he had the habit of kissing some of them during his performances. But speaking of presentations, as you will notice this concert was in Hawaii and Elvis NEVER left North America, he never went on tour around the world as any artist would do, but why? - Because of Colonel Parker's control. He never allowed it because to do so was to lose financial control of Elvis and he couldn't afford that luxury, Parker was a ludopath and had a lot of debts, he needed Elvis' money. So his whole career was made in the United States. Imagine how great Elvis was that without leaving his country, I think he only went to Canada, he is who he is today.
- Unchained Melody
I put this song because it is special and because that performance would be the last of King Elvis Presley. Coincidentally, we are only 4 days away from the 45th anniversary of his death, that August 16, 1977. Elvis would die weeks after this, in fact if you look at him you can see he is tired, fatigued, every note and every phrase costs him and I would say that it even hurts him and the difficulty to breathe is evident. In this concert he could not stand for long, it was a titanic effort he made and he still made it. The voice that he delivers sitting on that piano is as if his illness and suffering had disappeared for almost three minutes, even though physically he looks very affected. I think it is one of the most emotional performances of his career because you realize that he sang with his heart and soul, he probably knew it was going to be his last time on stage and indeed it was; it is impossible not to get goose bumps listening to this version. Elvis at this point in his life was alone, he had no real friends and logically he already knew who Tom Parker really was. All this made his dependence on drugs and antidepressants brutal and unfortunately, in addition to his weight gain, made it fatal for him.
Elvis Presley was one of the most prodigious singers in history, he was an exceptional musician, he sang, danced and above all he knew music. He took Rock and Roll to another level despite the difficulties he had on his way, political, social, financial and personal difficulties. Even so, he shone like no one else in his time and he still does, and I repeat, without having made any world tour. For all that, Elvis is, remains and will remain number one, the true King of Rock and Roll.

Excelente trabajo Javier.
¡Enhorabuena!
