Lo vivido esta semana en las semifinales de Champions es el claro ejemplo de lo que por acá se ha hablado en varias ocasiones, hay equipos que están hechos para ganar y hay otros a los que sencillamente les cuesta más de la cuenta. Dos semifinales que fueron totalmente opuestas como el día y en la noche, en una estaban los mejores equipos de europa en la actualidad mientras que en la otra par de clubes que eso de ganar no saben mucho. En la vida estamos rodeados de dualidades y el fútbol no fue la excepción, la diferencia entre ambos partidos fue abismal lo que nos hace pensar cuál pudiera ser un posible campeón.
What we witnessed this week in the Champions League semi-finals is a clear example of what we've discussed here on several occasions: some teams are built to win, while others simply struggle. The two semi-finals were complete opposites, like night and day. One featured the best teams in Europe right now, while the other showcased clubs that aren't exactly known for their winning ways. Life is full of contrasts, and football was no exception. The difference between the two matches was staggering, leaving us wondering who the eventual champion might be.
El Bayern - PSG fue probablemente una de las mejores semifinales de los últimos largos años, no recuerdo un partido en estas instancias en donde se hayan hecho 9 goles pero sobretodo jugando a un nivel estratosférico y el que el juego de ambos equipos fue de lo mejor que se podía ver. Creo que el Bayern jugó un poco mejor en lo que a tenencia y control de balón se refiere, este equipo sabe como controlar los tiempos de una manera muy óptima pero es que la letalidad de los franceses fue máxima, 6 disparos al arco para hacer 5 goles. El Bayern con 7 hizo 4 por lo que tampoco se quedan atrás. Realmente lo que quiero destacar es la capacidad de entrega de ambos equipos para buscar el resultado y es que el PSG en algunos momentos estuvo abajo en el marcador y el emparejamiento/remontada fue inmediata. Incluso estando ganando ambos jugaban como si no hubiera un mañana.
The Bayern Munich vs. PSG match was probably one of the best semifinals in years. I can't recall a game at this stage with nine goals, but above all, with such stratospheric play and some of the best football on display from both teams. I think Bayern played slightly better in terms of possession and ball control; this team knows how to manage the tempo of the game very effectively. However, the French side's clinical finishing was undeniable: six shots on target and five goals. Bayern, with seven shots, scored four, so they weren't far behind. What I really want to highlight is the incredible commitment of both teams to get the result. PSG were behind at times, but their comeback was immediate. Even when they were winning, both teams played like their lives depended on it.

Por su parte el Bayern estuvo 5-2 por debajo y en 3 minutos hizo dos goles para buscar que la eliminatoria no quedara tan cuesta arriba para la semana que viene. Lo del martes fue fútbol es su estado más puro, eran dos equipos en cancha jugando de una manera espectacular con jugadores que están es un estado de gracia importante (Olise, Luis Diaz, Kane, Kvaratskhelia, Doue, el propio Dembele), todos ellos con la mentalidad de que el partido tenía que ser inmaculado. Y es que además los goles fueron de alta factura producto de jugadas bien serias y elaboradas, quiero destacar el gol del colombiano que para mi ha sido uno de los mejores que ha hecho en su carrera, la calidad y solvencia con el balón fue una locura. El de Olise, el primero del georgiano; hay muchos para escoger. Creo que este partido no será olvidado en mucho tiempo como uno de los más top en la historia de la competición.
Bayern, trailing 5-2, rallied to score two goals in three minutes, hoping to make the tie less daunting for next week. Tuesday's match was football at its purest; two teams played spectacularly, with players in top form (Olise, Luis Diaz, Kane, Kvaratskhelia, Doue, and Dembele himself), all with the mindset that the game had to be flawless. And the goals were truly exquisite, the product of well-executed and carefully crafted plays. I want to highlight the Colombian's goal, which, in my opinion, was one of the best of his career; his quality and composure on the ball were simply incredible. Olise's goal, the Georgian's first, was another highlight; there are many to choose from. I believe this match will be remembered for a long time as one of the greatest in the competition's history.
Pero no todo es bueno, siempre las cosas tienen su lado oscuro o más aburrido y eso es lo que significó el Arsenal - Atlético de Madrid del día de ayer. Un partido que terminó 1-1 con los dos goles de penales siendo uno de ellos un poco cuestionable. Los ingleses patearon DOS veces al arco nada más, no recuerdo haberle visto un partido tan pobre a los dirigidos por Arteta, sobretodo en el segundo tiempo. Por otro lado el Atlético de Simeone tampoco hizo mucho, los primeros 45 minutos fueron igualados pero para mal, un primer tiempo aburrido en donde ninguno buscaba hacerse daño, sin ocasiones. Ya en la segunda mitad el nivel de Arsenal bajó más, por si eso era posible, los atacantes estaban deambulando sin tocar el balón al punto de que el técnico tuvo que cambiarlos a los tres de un solo golpe. Un desastre total el equipo de Londres.
But not everything is good; things always have their dark or dull side, and that's what yesterday's Arsenal-Atlético Madrid match was all about. The game ended 1-1 with both goals coming from penalties, one of which was somewhat questionable. The English side only managed two shots on target; I don't recall ever seeing such a poor performance from Arteta's men, especially in the second half. Simeone's Atlético didn't do much either. The first 45 minutes were evenly matched, but not in a good way—a boring first half where neither team looked to create any real danger, with no clear chances. In the second half, Arsenal's level dropped even further, if that were possible. The attackers were wandering aimlessly, barely touching the ball, to the point that the manager had to substitute all three at once. A complete disaster for the London team.

El Arsenal no tuvo nada destacable, los del Cholo si: Julian Alvarez. De hecho, con la salida del argentino producto de un golpe el Arsenal es cuando mejor se vió, estamos hablando de los últimos 5 casi 10 minutos de partido. Honestamente nada importante que reseñar de este encuentro, la cara más opaca de estas semifinales son estos dos clubes. Para los que hemos visto el presente y el pasado de ambos equipos podríamos prever esto, son técnicos que no son nada vistosos en su modo de juego. Ambas eliminatorias están abiertas completamente para la vuelta. Dar un ganador para mi es imposible porque por un lado los equipos están en un nivel altísimo y cualquiera pudiera acceder mientras que por el otro dejó tanto que desear que la verdad no se puede saber cual de los dos va a pasar. Es increíble que no haya nada definido y que el termómetro vaya a ser la diferencia tan grande en el nivel de fútbol de los clubes.
Arsenal had nothing noteworthy, but Simeone's team did: Julian Alvarez. In fact, Arsenal looked their best after the Argentine left the field due to a knock, we're talking about the last 5 or almost 10 minutes of the match. Honestly, there's nothing important to report about this game; these two clubs are the most lackluster aspect of these semifinals. Those of us who have seen the present and past of both teams could have predicted this; their managers aren't known for their attractive style of play. Both ties are wide open for the second leg. Picking a winner is impossible for me because, on the one hand, the teams are at an extremely high level and either could advance, while on the other, they've been so disappointing that it's impossible to know which of the two will go through. It's incredible that nothing is decided and that the deciding factor will be such a huge difference in the clubs' level of football.
