(ESP-ENG) Fecha FIFA llena luces y sombras recurrentes // FIFA Day full of recurring lights and shadows!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Yesterday began what would be the start of the FIFA date that would continue today until Tuesday and it did so logically with matches on different fronts of which today I would like to talk about but only a few of them. Many national teams use these dates as a preliminary preparation before the World Cup, looking to fine-tune the last details considering that there are less than two months to go before the World Cup kicks off in Qatar. But a great number of other countries are doing what they are doing is to start up again their soccer projects with a view to the future and this is where the Vinotinto, led by the very capable José Néstor Pekerman, comes in; I say very capable because I fully trust him, but the players are another story.
Venezuela faced Iceland, a team that was a revelation in the last World Cup, Russia 2018, but obviously is not the same as 4 years ago, it is a much more depleted but still has a few players from that team. On paper La Vinotinto name by name is much more than the Europeans and many of the teams they face, but something always happens in the performance that does not allow that individual potential they have to come out and show it on the field and yesterday's game was the best example, Venezuela played a disappointing and poor game, to say the least.
Seeing what happened yesterday I have no doubt what is one of the problems of this Vinotinto and no, it is not physical or anything like that, it is a mental problem, a problem of desire, of having the will to wear the shirt and above all a problem of concentration. I am one of those who have always thought that when these players put on the national shirt they do not feel it and this may sound a little selfish and even unfair but I think it is so, that ambition that many teams have, including Iceland, the Creoles do not show it and if they do it is in very specific moments of the matches when there is not much to do. Yesterday there was no collective play, there were no associations, defense and midfield were disconnected from the offensive part and therefore there was only ONE scoring chance in the second half as a result of a change in the last 15 minutes of the game.
And what was the goal like? - Well, it was a product of what I was talking about, a penalty that for me was a penalty, with three minutes left in the match. It is not the first time this has happened, this is a constant in the Vinotinto, a constant that has been passing from generation to generation because this is not new, this is a problem that Pekerman is inheriting from past processes. Games in which we are winning and a draw comes or like yesterday's game in which we are barely tying until the goal of defeat arrives. But now, Iceland deserved to win? - No doubt about it. They were better in the second half and in the first half they did what they do best, they made their opponents uncomfortable.
Venezuela has to urgently change that chip of resignation and lack of desire that inhabits its players because this opportunity we have with Pekerman I do not know if we will have it again if he decides to throw in the towel. We can not continue to forgive them games like yesterday's just because they are friendly matches, the demand has to come and be stronger and stronger from us fans. And all respect to Iceland because that way of playing in which they muddy the game and make it complicated is their calling card, in fact if you see their last performances you will realize that of their last 8 games, 4 have been draws and one win, yesterday. The Vinotinto still has an absurdly long way to go if they want to take advantage of Pekerman's process.
Yesterday there were also a couple of matches that caught my attention, France-Austria and Belgium-Wales, both corresponding to the Nations League. France's match is most striking because it is hard to understand how a team of that caliber and with such a squad could play yesterday looking to avoid relegation. The Gauls had been winless for 4 games with two defeats and two draws, which meant they were in check but as always happens, individuals come to save the furniture and in this case the goal was in the hands of the jewel of France, Kylian Mbappé. The level at which the PSG player is is no coincidence and is a real madness, as was the goal he scored in the second half of the match.
But if there was another who also did a great job in yesterday's victory for France, it was Giroud. When you are looking for a good striker, one who not only scores goals but also plays a pivotal role, who creates play, who is not selfish when it comes to scoring goals, and who can link up with everyone in the attacking half of the pitch, just say the name of Olivier Giroud. Austria made France uncomfortable at times but it was never enough to beat them. Despite this performance in this League, which was not the best, for me France is a clear favorite for the World Cup in Qatar, there are few teams that have this monstrosity of a squad and it is one of those that I believe will come out on top in the World Cup. With this victory they obviously do not aspire to anything but they managed to avoid a relegation which would be quite embarrassing.
And the third team I saw yesterday was Belgium, one that was a steamroller for most of the game, especially in the first 45 minutes and part of that dominance was thanks to Kevin De Bruyne. As with Mbappé, the Belgian's level is being barbaric, we see it every weekend at Manchester City and still at least to me he continues to amaze me. The two goals with which Belgium beat a timid and sluggish Wales yesterday came through the boots of De Bruyne, the first with a shot from outside the box and the second thanks to an assist from an overflow on the right side of the pitch.
I remember that for the Russia 2018 World Cup I bet a lot on Belgium because it was the revelation team and the one that could give the shock, in the end it was Croatia, but I think Belgium was also worthy. Already for Qatar things change because we are facing a much more mature team and with more experience than four years ago. I would have to see the final crossings but I no longer bet so much on them or at least not in the way I did in the past, I feel that at the moment of truth they lack that extra to become a really great team despite the great players they have. The Belgians finished second behind the Netherlands in a group where they took extreme advantage of Poland and Wales.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well my people that's all for today, I hope you liked it.
¡Hugs to all, see you next time!

Saludos.
