El día de ayer en el circuito de Yas Marina en Abu Dabi la temporada de este 2023 llegó a su final con un dominio aplastante y de principio a fin de Max Verstappen. Los números de Max a lo larga de este año han sido una autentica locura, son estadísticas que honestamente veo muy complicado que sean rotas y superadas en un futuro salvo por él mismo y ya eso es difícil. 19 victorias, un récord inédito. 21 podios y 12 pole position son algunos de los número que deja el neerlandés esta temporada, una que hay que decir fue desde mi punto de vista bastante monótona precisamente por la poca competencia y resistencia que tuvo el piloto de Red Bull. Con estas cifras sinceramente no se que esperar para el 2024 por parte de todo el equipo de RB, la vara está muy alta.

La cita entonces fue en los Emiratos Árabes, circuito de despedidas y polémicas. A este premio llegábamos con todo decidido en lo que a campeonatos se refiere pero por ejemplo en esa lucha por el segundo puesto en el campeonato de constructores entre Mercedes y Ferrari todavía había tela que cortar ya que estaba lejos de estar definido. Haciendo una mirada general la temporada para estos dos equipos fue bastante regular, a Mercedes le ha costado mucho encontrar aquel nivel del 2021 y a Ferrari básicamente los errores de estrategias y muchas veces la mala suerte, si es que eso existe acá, también le jugaron una mala pasada y para muestra lo sucedido ayer en la carrera.

Comenzando el fin de semana hay que irnos a la pole position del día sábado en donde más o menos vimos lo que fue esta temporada. Max ganando cómodamente, Leclerc siempre cerca pero nunca lo suficiente, los McLaren con unas grandes mejoras se convirtieron en un equipo altamente competitivo y capaz de pelear en lo más arriba, con los Mercedes parece que Russell fue el único que estuvo cómodo con el auto porque Hamilton la verdad es que nunca supo encontrar el truco al suyo y un Alonso haciéndolo infinitamente mejor que su compañero de equipo, el de Asturias quedó séptimo mientras que Stroll decimotercero. De resto pues los demás equipos batallando por estar lo menos abajo que se pueda dentro de todas sus posibilidades.

Fue una clasificación en donde también vimos el mejor posicionamiento de Tsunoda en su carrera al quedar sexto. La idea para Ferrari y Mercedes era quedar lo más arriba posible para que esa lucha por los puntos en la carrera fuera menos complicada. Leclerc cumplió pero Sainz no quien quedó de decimosexto; Russell cumplió quedando de cuarto pero Hamilton no ocupando el decimoprimer lugar. Desde el mismo sábado ya vimos problemas por lo que se veía que esa lucha sería entre los más jóvenes de cada equipo. Aunque también es verdad que la estrategia de Ferrari en la carrera fue un desastre total, como cosa rara en esta temporada.

La particularidad de este circuito es que comienza de día y termina de noche por lo que las temperaturas también varían, vamos de más a menos. Digo esto porque al final afecta el rendimiento de los cauchos ya que esta pista es muy abrasiva, desgasta rápidamente las gomas por lo que las buenas estrategias siempre serán claves. En esta oportunidad la idea era salir con gomas medias y dependiendo de su rendimiento hacer una o dos paradas para finalizar con las duras. El primer error fue de Ferrari quienes decidieron que Carlos Sainz saliera con gomas duras desde la partida, esto hizo que se le dificultara escalar posiciones por lo que siempre estuvo "encerrado" en la parte media alta de la tabla.

Otra de las cosas que también estaba esperando que pasara la Ferrari era un Safety Car hacia la parte final de la carrera pero tampoco sucedió. La historia nos dice que los SC son comunes acá pero hacer depender una estrategia a punta de esperanza es lamentable y más si necesitaban sumar la mayor cantidad de puntos. Por que hablo solo de Sainz? - porque fue lo clave para que Mercedes se terminara llevando el segundo lugar a pesar de la discreta actuacion de Hamilton. La diferencia fue de apenas 3 puntos en la tabla final, si se hubiese hecho algo diferente con Carlos muy seguramente la Ferrari se hubiese llevado la segunda plaza.

En términos generales fue una carrera bastante tranquila, por muchos momentos fue el típico trencito en donde adelantar se hacía complicado porque todas estaban con capacidad de DRS. Vimos como los McLaren mostraron un buen ritmo durante todo el fin de semana y lo materializaron muy bien en pista logrando un quinto y sexto lugar respectivamente. Alonso terminó séptimo y con ellos cuarto en la tabla de pilotos, superando a los dos de Ferrari y a Russell. El año de Fernando fue muy bueno, es verdad que comenzó pisando fuerte y después se fue cayendo pero hay que estar contento porque Aston Martin demostró que cuando quiere puede ser más competitivo de lo que mostró en algunos premios, con unos ajustes y mejoras creo que el año que viene pueden pelear más en serio.
In general terms it was a quite calm race, for many moments it was the typical traffic where overtaking was complicated because they were all with DRS capability. We saw how the McLarens showed a good pace throughout the weekend and materialized it very well on track achieving a fifth and sixth place respectively. Alonso finished seventh and with them fourth in the drivers' standings, beating the two Ferrari's and Russell. Fernando's year was very good, it is true that he started strong and then fell off but we must be happy because Aston Martin showed that when he wants he can be more competitive than he showed in some awards, with some adjustments and improvements I think that next year they can fight more seriously.
Al final Max se llevó la carrera ampliamente, el de Mónaco quedó segundo en una gran carrera por su parte, Russell de tercero. A destacar el octavo puesto del japonés Tsunoda. Mala actuación de Ferrari, dejaron ir la segunda plaza, Mercedes tienen que hacer esos autos de cero, la molestia de Hamilton es evidente, fue un monoplaza que nunca rindió. McLaren tiene que seguir la senda de esta temporada, muy buenas sensaciones y Aston Martin con ligeros ajustes pueden llegar a figurar más de lo que lograron este temporada. Con esto llegamos al final de la temporada, será hasta finales de Febrero cuando nos volvamos a ver en Bahréin.

Así es. Al principio parecía que Leclerc podía dar algo más o el mismo Alonso pero todo se diluyó muy rápido. El domino de Verstappen y la Red Bull es agobiante. Esperemos que Mclaren siga haciendo las cosas bien para que sean más competitivos de los que son.
