(ESP-ENG) La sangre está desaparecida. [Opinión]
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
To denote that a person is alive and has a certain way of acting, it is said that "blood runs through their veins." It is also generally associated with a person having a certain tact for things or being emotionally driven. On Friday, the Vinotinto team made another public appearance after the resounding failure of the qualifying rounds at the hands of "Bocha" Batista. This time, the 11 chosen were selected under the interim leadership of Oswaldo Vizcarrondo, a former center back for the national team and until recently the coach of the Venezuelan U17 and U20 national teams. It will be difficult to forget what happened almost a month ago. I think that night still lives in people's minds and retinas, but I would have thought this friendly could have been a balm for the future. It wasn't...
I sound like a broken record, always repeating the same thing, but Venezuela's problem, primarily, is one: a lack of blood in their veins when it comes to putting on the shirt. When they wear Venezuela's Adidas kit, they look like zombies, headless chickens, or simply footballers who forget the basics of football for 90 minutes. Is this the coach's fault? Not at all; it's purely a matter for the players. We don't know if Vizcarrondo will remain as coach; I suppose that's his goal. As a fan, I don't see anything wrong with him considering the "success" he's had in the youth teams, but ultimately, it's the federation that will decide the technical destiny of the Vinotinto.
Venezuela lost 1-0 in a match that could easily have ended 7-0, considering Argentina had 11 direct shots on goal, 10 of which were saved by José Contreras, the young goalkeeper who was also the team's best player on the field. When a goalkeeper stands out so much, we already know it was a disaster. From that Vinotinto qualifier, only four returned: Ferraresi, Casseres, Aramburu, and Telasco; none of the four shone. In fact, I think the weakest aspect was the defensive performance, with Ferraresi, who was supposed to be the leader on the field in that area, but he was quite the opposite. I saw him weak in marking, wandering, and lost at times; a total zombie.
In addition to Contreras, we must applaud the irreverence of Gleiker Mendoza, currently playing in Ukraine. Finally, we saw a winger who dares to do things, who pushes, and above all, who runs, leaving behind the senseless dribbling, the swagger, and even the slow trot of Soteldo. I think this player was one of the most unbalanced players Venezuela had on Saturday night, and it was truly a pleasure to see him give his all. That attitude and desire to show off are what the national team needs. But this romance ends there; only these two players managed to live up to the expectations of a match that was known to mean nothing beyond seeking out those new faces of the future.
What's the consolation for many? Well, that it's the first match and the players shouldn't be judged so harshly. It may have been the first day of an idea and a plan, but it wasn't the first day of knowing how to move the ball, defend it, and run it. Everyone on the pitch has already proven themselves in those areas. So, from this platform, we're always going to demand the best from these players, because it's one thing to overwhelm you with their footballing skills, but another to do so with their attitude. And this seems like deja vu, but sadly, it isn't. The first half was tragic; in the second, things improved somewhat, but for short periods of time (more due to Argentina's physical exhaustion than anything else), there was never any real consolidation of anything at all.
Seeing what we saw on Friday, I have two conclusions. A lack of level of play; it's sad to see how far we're from the level of performance needed to even make a dent in anything. And a lack of soul and blood. There's no mentality; it still isn't there, despite this being a 90% renewed team. If we add to this the fact that the second friendly, which was scheduled for this week, was canceled—for who knows why?—well, we'll continue adrift and unprepared. Meanwhile, blood is conspicuous by its absence.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
Well, that's all for today, everyone. I hope you enjoyed it.
¡Hugs to everyone, see you next time!

Saludos, estimado!
¡Felicitaciones!
