Finalmente el tiempo ha llegado, estamos en semana de carrera, la primera de lo que será la temporada 2024. En lo personal estoy muy ansioso por el inicio de estos 20 carros formados en la parrilla de salida esperando que las 5 luces se apaguen para demostrar quien es el más rápido, quién tiene mejor estrategia, que vehículo viene con las mejoras más óptimas, en fin, que equipo viene realmente con la mentalidad de pelear con la Red Bull en lo más alto y qué equipo está mejor preparado para no quedar de último en la tabla. Además de toda esa adrenalina la cual es tácita también hay otros factores que estoy seguro serán vitales para el buen funcionamiento de los equipos.

La primera carrera es en Bahrein este sábado y la pole position es el día viernes, este cambio se debe a que en los países árabes estamos en épocas del Ramadán por lo que tanto fin de semana como en el segundo premio que será en Jeddah, Arabia, también se correrá un sábado. Ya entrando un poco más de lleno en lo que será la temporada hay varias cosas a destacar. La primera es que en cuanto a los pilotos no hubo ningún cambio en los lineup, cosa que es rara y para mi inesperada porque sinceramente esperaba que Logan Sargeant no continuara con Williams, su temporada anterior fue nefasta, llena de errores y choques por lo que su salida era algo esperado pero no fue así. Imagino que por ser un novato querrán darle otra oportunidad la cual para mi tendrá que aprovechar al máximo si no quiere salir en mitad de temporada.

A pesar de que los equipos no se movieron para este 2024 si se espera que las cosas estén un poco con la temperatura alta en los paddock de los equipos. Ya sabemos que este año será el último de Hamilton en Mercedes y el de Sainz con Ferrari por lo que esas gestiones de equipo serán muy interesantes de ver. ¿Habrán favorecidos?, ¿Sainz acatará las órdenes como lo hizo los años anteriores y dejarse pasar por Leclerc?, ¿El carro de Russell tendrá las mejoras que el de Hamilton no? - todas estas son especulaciones que aunque parezcan fantasiosas llegan a ser más comunes de lo que podemos pensar. Por un lado tenemos a un Sainz "dolido" y por el otro a un equipo "traicionado" ya que entiendo que muy pocos en Mercedes, por no decir casi nadie, sabía esta movida de Lewis.

Los McLaren y los Aston Martin también tienen un reto y es mantener lo que hicieron el año pasado. Los primeros fueron de menos a más mientras que los de Lawrence Stroll fueron de más a menos. Piastri y Norris para mi son de las mejores duplas que hay actualmente en la F1, una mezcla de juventud con un talento brutal; si a ellos les dan un carro que sea capaz de competir estoy seguro de que lograran unos cuantos podios, tienen que replicar lo hecho en la segunda parte de la temporada, hicieron unas mejoras increíbles y aquel carro volaba. Creo que la meta es esa, continuar por ese camino. ¿Pueden pelear con Ferrari, Mercedes y hasta con Red Bull? - si, si hacen las cosas bien desde el principio, no tengo dudas.
McLaren and Aston Martin also have a challenge and that is to maintain what they did last year. The former went from less to more while Lawrence Stroll's team went from more to less. Soy fanático de Fernando Alonso, personalmente quiero verlo ganar el 33 esta temporada pero para que eso pase tiene que tener, igualmente que lo que pasa con McLaren, un carro competitivo o por lo menos uno que se parezca a aquel vehículo de principios de temporada pasada. El tema con Aston Martin es que ellos se quedaron atrás, todos los demás avanzaron en diseños mientras ellos optaron por pensar que con el carro que tenían iba a ser suficiente. Otro hecho relevante es que cuentan con Stroll en sus filas, el que para mi es el peor piloto de los 20, sin contar a Sargeant que es un novato. Tanto es así que la mayoría de los puntos de la temporada pasada fueron conseguidos por el asturiano, Stroll figura muy poco la verdad.
I am a fan of Fernando Alonso, I personally want to see him win the 33 this season but for that to happen he has to have, just like McLaren, a competitive car or at least one that looks like that car from the beginning of last season. Y bueno en cuanto al resto de equipos, tenemos la lucha de media tabla hacia abajo. Un Williams con James Vowles al mando puede que tengan algo de oportunidad ya que este tipo viene de la escuela de Toto Wolff, ya se vio algo de mejoras al final de la temporada por lo que se espera que esta sea algo positivo para ellos. Haas sin Guenther Steiner será raro pero creo que ese equipo necesitaba un refrescamiento, la cara ahora es Ayao Komatsu, un ingeniero que lleva con el equipo casi 8 años. El propietario de Haas, Gene Haas, estuvo en desacuerdo muchas veces con Steiner por el tema monetario para el equipo, de ahí a su posible salida. Magnussen y Nico Hülkenberg son sus pilotos, experiencia tienen, el tema es la calidad del carro, con pocos recursos es complicado competir.

De resto más de lo mismo. Un Kick Sauber, anteriormente Alfa Romeo, que hasta no se vea en pista no se sabrá nada. Un Alpine con dos pilotos que no se llevan mucho. Gasly es muy bueno pero Ocon es el segundo peor piloto de esta F1 para mi. Y Visa Cash App RB, vaya nombre, antes conocido como AlphaTauri siguen con Tsunoda y Ricciardo. Esa es otra dupla que me gusta pero pasa lo mismo que con estos equipos de tabla media, imposible que estén para competir con los de arriba, les toca hacer lo mejor que puedan con lo que tienen. Por lo pronto a esperar el viernes a ver que nos trae la clasificación y con ella la parrilla de salida para el sábado.

Muy ansioso por el inicio de esta nueva temporada de la F1. Según lo que ví en los test, creo que aún RedBull tiene la ventaja y por mucho. Tengo la sensación de que Ferrari mejoró, al igual que Mercedes. Aston Martin los veo igual que como concluyeron la temporada 2023. De todas manera los test tan solo son pruebas, la mayoría de los equipos no muestran todo su potencial. Veremos cómo va todo en Bahréin está semana.

Es que las mejoras que le hicieron a ese Red Bull con las entradas de aire verticales son de locos. Pero si, ni siquiera en la clasificación veremos lo definitivo, al final todo se verá el sábado. Ojalá tengamos una temporada pareja y reñida.
