(ESP-ENG) Se vieron las costuras en Hungaroring.
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
The Hungarian circuit is one of F1's legendary circuits, one of those old-school circuits that still remains on the competition calendar after more than 300,000 people attended the venue last weekend. That's exactly what F1 was asking of the people at the Enzo Ferrari racetrack in Emilia-Romagna: renovations and a larger capacity, which meant more money, but we already know the story. What concerns us today is what happened at the Hungaroring track, both in qualifying and in the race itself, which offers a lot to talk about due to how "curious" and revealing they were. As always, we're going to break everything down by team in order to leave out as little as possible.
The big winners, McLaren, once again annihilated the competition, with a gap of more than 20 seconds over third place and more than 40 seconds over the pole position winner. It's clear that these cars are on another level in both performance and top speed. But what was truly interesting wasn't their victory, which is now somewhat commonplace, but the strategies they used to achieve it and benefit a particular driver. Could it be that the papaya-colored team wants Lando to be the champion? These strategies seem to tip the scales in that direction. Piastri, via radio, repeatedly stated that his fight was against Lando, but instead focused on protecting him from Leclerc, leaving the Briton clear to win his fifth race of the year.
The "battle" between the two is already fierce. In fact, in the final laps, Piastri almost took out Lando, which could have caused a tragedy in terms of results. These decisions only serve to increase this rivalry. Personally, I think Piastri is having a better world championship; he doesn't make as many mistakes as Norris, and the races he's won have been through sheer effort. Norris does too, but I feel these strategies have helped him a little more. In this McLaren matter, we must involve another team, Ferrari, who once again displayed their poor management skills to ruin a race where, in the opening laps, the prize seemed to be in Leclerc's hands.
Charles has earned countless pole positions, but he hasn't been able to translate them into victories on Sundays. Yesterday, inexplicably, the Monegasque driver's car went to the garbage dump after a very good first half. The driver's radio communications give a glimpse of the tense situation within the team, which apparently never tires of making mistakes. Is dirty laundry aired at home or in public? Hamilton is another driver who is having a really tough time. His alarming words after Saturday's qualifying show us that his situation is critical: the car isn't responding, he hasn't managed to adapt. I hope these three weeks of vacation clear his mind and he returns in better spirits, as those aren't the attitudes of a multiple world champion.
Red Bull is adrift. For the first time in several years, we're seeing a Verstappen who isn't capable of competing. He was also harsh with his words, stating that it would be difficult to win again with that car. Yesterday, he finished ninth in part due to a poor strategy at the time of making the pit stop; coming in earlier than usual greatly affected his performance on track due to the excessive traffic. Once again, Tsunoda doesn't exist. Mercedes, without making much noise, always pushes Russell into the top positions; it almost amuses me how the Briton always appears like a ghost. Antonelli scored points after a long time, so it's a step forward in that sense. The miracle of the Aston Martins excited more than a few, myself included. I suppose there were improvements, but what both Alonso and Stroll showed was very good, P5 and P7 respectively.
It was a weekend where many teams were exposed. Alpine completely ruined Colapinto's race with two terrifying pit stops. If the cars are already useless and they come in and take 7 seconds per stop, then we're in bad shape. Briatore already said it: they're focused on 2026, so I don't know if we can expect anything from these Frenchmen. In the end, it was a good race, the strategies gave it another color along with the dramas that always generate controversy and something to talk about. Nor-Pia-Rus took the podium; Leclerc, after starting P1, finished P4, and Max P9. With these results, Lando cuts the gap to 9 points with Piastri, who remains the leader with 284 points. Russell is dangerously close to Verstappen, with only 15 points between them, and that fight could be very interesting. For now, we'll have to wait three weeks for the summer break; the next Grand Prix is in the Netherlands.
Well, that's all for today, friends. I hope you enjoyed it.
¡Hugs to everyone, see you next time!
At least Lando didn't break the trophy. I am an Australian and want to see Piastri win the drivers title.
