(ESP-ENG) Últimos llamados a los octavos de final // Last calls to the round of 16!
Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Yesterday, the definitive passes were finalized for the Round of 16, which begins today, and as expected, all of this took place under the factor that has been ruling this World Cup almost since its beginning: surprises. I think Qatar can easily go down in the history books of this sport as one of the World Cups where the most unexpected results have been the norm and one in which many things we took for granted have simply fallen apart for reasons that we are still assimilating. That countries such as Japan, Morocco, Australia, South Korea, etc. have left out the supposed "powers" of soccer such as Germany, Belgium, Uruguay and Denmark itself is something that must be analyzed in depth because it is something unusual despite the dismal present of these teams. So let's move on to the remaining four matches, which I repeat, are quite normal for a round of 16.
- [Japón - Croacia]
There is something very surprising with the Japanese, besides the fact that their fans clean almost the entire stadium, and that is that the six points they got were thanks to their victories over two world champions who were called to sweep that group E and their defeat was against the weak Costa Rica. If we think cold those numbers are crazy because, how is it possible? - Nobody knows friends, we can say that Germany is not the oiled machine of previous years and that their decline in quality and play is something that has been going on for four years and that Spain came out with an alternate team and simply relaxed. The thing is that we will see them in the round of 16 against a Croatia that was beaten in their group by Morocco, the team that nobody bet anything on.
Croatia is one of those teams that I sincerely wonder how they became finalists in the last World Cup. I question it because that team is very similar to this one and the truth is that they are not playing much, they were not able to beat the African country, they beat Canada because they gave up at the end of the game and they were not able to beat a Belgium with nothing to offer. Be careful with the Japanese in this match, if they were able to beat two big names they could very well do the same with Modric and company. The Europeans have a great team but when it comes to collective performance is where they fall, I do not know, I have my serious doubts but I will bet on Japan, when they believe it is possible that things happen.
- [Brasil - Corea del Sur]
One of the clearest round of 16 that I have in spite of the little comedy yesterday of Brazil against Cameroon. The South Americans, despite having shown us one of the best soccer in this first round, it strikes me how little effective and convincing they are, a timid 2-0 against Serbia which is Poland's sister in the sense that they are bad teams, very bad, against the Swiss they could not either and only won by the minimum and well, yesterday's game that I honestly did not see but I understand that Brazil had to win many times but that's what I say, a lot of chances but few goals. Neymar is expected to be ready for this game and I think it would be good for them because such a figure on the field can drastically change the mood of a team.
South Korea was eliminated from the World Cup for most of yesterday's match, but it was thanks to their tenacity and attitude, which Uruguay lacked, for example, that they managed to score the goal in stoppage time that put them back into the round of 16. If you ask me, the Asians deserved to qualify more than the Charrúas and all because of their desire to get the final ticket. If Brazil tightens the screws and plays their best soccer, Korea will have no chance, but given what they have seen and that they arrive with their powder a little wet, it could not be an entertaining match because the Koreans' game is not like that, but it could be one in which their order could collide with Brazil's offensive power and then everything could get stuck. But well, I'm going with Brazil because they are called to continue advancing if or if not.
- [España - Marruecos]
The 7-0 win against Costa Rica I think was very damaging for Luis Enrique's La Roja because the expectations went beyond the clouds and that in a tournament like this where if you have a bad night you definitely leave is something fatal for the minds of both players and fans. I said it and I repeat it again, Spain won with that lightness more than for their own merits was because Costa Rica never came out to the field and with such an advantage, the Iberians saw that game as just another training session. Against Germany it was more balanced, one of the best games of this World Cup, to get to Japan where the first half was really good but the second half was pitiful and pathetic, they deserved to lose? - Without any doubt yes. It happens a lot that certain teams underestimate others and that's when the surprise happens that nobody expects and the lights go out, that's what happened to Spain in the second 45 minutes.
On the other hand Morocco in my opinion is the surprise of this World Cup, how come nobody saw this coming? - Well, that's the magic of the World Cup I guess. You have to take into account that most of the Moroccans play in Europe, so they have the conditions, preparation and experience on the field, hence the result they got in the group stage. They are an undefeated team that took points from everyone and had the pleasure of crushing Belgium. This team can be a real headache for the Spaniards, I feel that Spain will still qualify but if there is an adverse result I will not be surprised because it can be perfectly expected.

- [Portugal - Suiza]
And finally I think another of the most evenly matched games that will offer us these round of 16 because they are two fairly average teams despite the fact that one has more names than the other. The Portuguese have a style of play that many do not like and that is thanks to Dos Santos but that still seems to be enough to advance to the next round. Against Ghana they came close to losing or at least to a draw, it is true that they did the job against Uruguay and when they had to close they did not do it for the same reason as other teams, conformity. Since Portugal qualified yesterday, they came out very calm and I want to assume that they did not expect to meet a Korea team that in the end pulled out their claws to take the game away from them thanks to a comeback. I don't see the Lusitanians going to the quarterfinals so easily, Switzerland already proved to be a team with a very top level physical condition and order, so here the prediction will be reserved.
Yesterday's match was the key match for the Swiss to seal their qualification and it was against a team with which they have historically had some friction, Serbia. Fortunately nothing happened beyond soccer and the Swiss took the match in a game that was very good and entertaining. Yesterday I saw a team that did not run, that defended decently and was very effective, if they come out like that against Cristiano's team they can make the night hell. Even against Brazil they didn't look that bad, they lost but the image they left wasn't bad at all. As I said I don't see a clear winner in this crossing, we could think that CR7 will come out beast mode and solve the match but that has not been seen so far so what we have left is to wait.

¡Enhorabuena!
