(ESP-ENG) "Crónica de una muerte anunciada" - [Opinión]
Hello friends, good vibes to all.

I don't usually talk much about baseball here, even though I consider myself a huge fan, but unfortunately, some unfortunate circumstances have forced me to do so. I wish it had been under different circumstances, but the people and managers involved are quite petty and incompetent, and here we are, in the same situation as last year. The Leones del Caracas, the winningest team in the LVBP, have been eliminated in the regular season for the second year in a row. For those of us who are fans of the Leones, this is both an insult and an outrage because those responsible for this failure have been constantly singled out, and we have names and surnames, and yet, as I write these lines, both men remain in their positions.
Back in July, August, and September, when news starts to circulate before the start of our baseball season, a couple of things completely dampened my spirits for what was to come in October. The first was the confirmation of José Alguacil as manager, a guy who's been managing the team for free since last season. It's true that under his leadership we won the 21st title, but if you ask me, that was more due to the great coaching staff and the atmosphere that once existed in the dugout, not because Alguacil is a good manager. And that year, he even made a lot of bad decisions in various games. Five years managing, one title, and four eliminations (two in the Round Robin and two in the regular season); a complete failure.

Alguacil's performance over the last two years has been so poor that the team's win/loss record is negative: 51/61. But I wish that were all. A while after learning that this character would be staying on, we found out something even worse. Luis Sojo was joining the team as general manager. As a manager, Sojo is one of the worst Venezuela has ever produced. Of the three World Baseball Classics he managed, he failed in two, and in six years managing in the Venezuelan League, he won only one title. He didn't fare well in Mexico either. As a general manager, well, you'd have to ask the Tiburones de La Guaira about last season—another complete failure. Unfortunately, I knew what was coming for my team. That's not being negative; it's being overly realistic.
Luis Sojo's management was a complete disaster this season, particularly regarding imports and foreign player quotas. The Leones never had a complete and fully functional bullpen, and our pitching was the worst in the league with a 5.80 ERA. To win in these short leagues, you absolutely need good pitchers who can get the job done. Caracas lacked relievers, which explains why we lost so many games in the final three innings. This, and I repeat, was compounded by Alguacil's poor decisions (leaving a pitcher who already looked tired or out of control in too long, calling in the wrong pitcher, or pulling them too early). The management has been terrible, hence the numbers; the statistics don't lie.

Stumbling over the same stone is unacceptable. Understanding that the problem has always been Alguacil and now Sojo isn't hard to see, but I understand there are hidden interests at play. It's true that there are also players who aren't performing as expected; they'll have to be let go as well to carry out the complete overhaul and clean-up the team so desperately needs. What would I expect? - The departure of the manager and the sporting director. Will that happen? - I don't think so. At most, they'll fire one of the two to calm things down. The team owners are leading the institution to the brink, because even the general manager, Juan Cristóbal Coronil, has been a monumental failure. Good news is what I want for my beloved team, but in the meantime, we have to endure this bitterness and helplessness.
Well folks, that's all for today. I hope you enjoyed it.
¡Hugs to everyone, see you next time!
