Este fenómeno llamado "cultura de la cancelación" básicamente es el retiro del apoyo a través de un rechazo colectivo a una persona o un grupo de ellas. Esto puede ser un arma de doble filo porque abre el debate sobre el uso correcto de la redes sociales y del propio comportamiento de la gente en espacios físicos a la hora de expresar dichos descontentos. ¿Por qué hablo de esto es esta comunidad deportiva? - pues porque este "movimiento" se puede dar en todos los ámbitos de la vida y el día sábado, en el estadio Santiago Bernabéu, fuimos testigos de cómo esto se manifestó durante casi los 90 minutos de partido, incluso antes de su inicio.
This phenomenon, called "cancel culture," is essentially the withdrawal of support through collective rejection of an individual or group. This can be a double-edged sword because it opens up the debate about the proper use of social media and people's behavior in physical spaces when expressing such discontent. Why am I talking about this in this sports community? Because this "movement" can occur in all areas of life, and on Saturday, at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, we witnessed how this manifested itself for almost the entire 90 minutes of the match, even before it began.
El Real Madrid ha vivido una tormenta en esta última semana al perder la oportunidad de ganar dos títulos y además de quedarse sin su técnico. Pero la gente parece que está clara y entiende que Xabi Alonso fue una víctima de un vestuario que todo apunta fue el encargado de despachar al español. Ante la caída contra el Albacete las personas solo esperaban ir al estadio el sábado para mostrar y manifestar su descontento contra algunos jugadores como contra el mismo presidente, Florentino Pérez. La realidad es que los decibeles fueron más altos de lo normal al punto que desde el mismo calentamiento se comenzó a vivir un ambiente hostil.

But the public seems to understand that Xabi Alonso was a victim of a dressing room that, by all accounts, was responsible for his dismissal. Following the defeat against Albacete, fans expected to go to the stadium on Saturday to express their discontent with some players and even with the president, Florentino Pérez. The reality is that the atmosphere was more intense than usual, with a hostile environment beginning even during the warm-up.

Jude Bellingham, Vinicius y Valverde (en menor medida) fueron los más perjudicados por esta lluvia de pitidos y silbidos en demostración de un rechazo al que la gente les achaca por, supuestamente, ser los artífices del despido de Xabi, entre otras cosas. Es muy evidente que el nivel del inglés está muy pobre y que el brasileño está sumamente irregular en su juego, esto hizo que las personas, dentro de la decepción y frustración de haber quedado eliminados de la Copa del Rey, se encararan duramente contra ellos en el partido. Cada vez que tocaban el balón las flechas del descontento llovían sobre el césped del Bernabéu y es acá entonces cuando yo me pregunto, ¿realmente es efectiva esta "cultura?"...

Creo que como un catalizador de ira puede funcionar, al final la gente se desahoga, gente que está en todo su derecho de expresarse siempre dentro de los límites del respeto, al mismo tiempo que les demuestran a los jugadores que no siempre van a ser aplaudidos, los baja un poco del pedestal en el que se pueden poner, queriendo o no. Puede que también sirva como un reseteo mental y entender que más abajo no se puede estar, lo que toca es respirar, sacudirse el polvo y comenzar a escalar nuevamente considerando que la Champions ya está de vuelta y que ahora están a tan solo un punto del líder, el Barcelona. Pero, ¿y si ese reseteo mental del que hablo ocurre a la inversa? - la cancelación para algunas personas puede ser un proceso sumamente complicado de afrontar y más cuando se asume que por ser futbolistas elites tienen la fortaleza interna de aguantar lo que les caiga.
I think it can work as a catalyst for anger; in the end, people vent, and they have every right to express themselves, always within the bounds of respect. At the same time, it shows the players that they won't always be applauded, bringing them down a bit from the pedestal they've placed themselves on, whether they want to or not. It might also serve as a mental reset, helping them understand that they can't get any lower. What they need to do is breathe, dust themselves off, and start climbing again, considering that the Champions League is back and they're now only one point behind the leader, Barcelona. But what if that mental reset I'm talking about happens in reverse? Cancellation can be an extremely difficult process for some people to cope with, especially when they assume that, as elite footballers, they have the inner strength to withstand whatever comes their way.

A Vinicius antes de salir al partido se le vio llorando en el túnel de vestidores y es aquí donde la gente responde: "ah pero cuando es bocón y tiene actitud prepotente si es el más fuerte". En lo personal nunca he estado muy de acuerdo con estas prácticas, si creo que los jugadores tienen que conocer el descontento del fanático pero de ahí a pitar durante los 90 minutos seguidos no tiene sentido para mi. Veremos si a corto plazo, (Champions esta semana), esta silbatina generó efecto; pensaría que si, la cosa es que tipo de efecto si el positivo o el negativo. A mediano y largo plazo pues se verá reflejado en la continuidad de algunos jugadores y que tanto estarán peleando por Liga y UCL al final de la temporada. Y es que para algo tendrá que servir lo vivido el sábado, que para muchos ha sido una de las mayores muestra de rechazo expresadas hacia el club merengue en los últimos años.
Vinicius was seen crying in the tunnel before the match, and this is where people respond: "Oh, but when he's outspoken and arrogant, he's the strongest." Personally, I've never been a big fan of these practices. I do believe players need to be aware of the fans' discontent, but booing for the entire 90 minutes makes no sense to me. We'll see if this booing has any effect in the short term (Champions League this week); I think it will, the question is what kind of effect—positive or negative. In the medium and long term, it will be reflected in the continuity of some players and how much they'll be fighting for La Liga and the Champions League at the end of the season. What happened on Saturday has to serve some purpose, as for many, it was one of the biggest displays of rejection expressed towards Real Madrid in recent years.
