Finalmente la temporada de Fórmula 1 ha llegado a su fin, una que gracias a Max Verstappen, las cosas como son, agarró un poco más de color en los últimos premios. Todo parecía indicar que tendríamos un cierre en Abu Dhabi por todo lo grande con mucha tensión y nervios en pista pero la realidad es que sucedió todo lo contrario; fue una carrera insípida, sin nada de emoción y con un campeón que da la impresión que no despertó la euforia y alegría que demandaba tal premio. A manera personal creo que muchos esperaban o querían!? que ganara Verstappen o hasta el mismo Piastri; esa es la sensación que se respira tanto en redes como el día de ayer en el circuito Yas Marina, según algunos periodistas.
The Formula 1 season has finally come to an end, a season that, thanks to Max Verstappen, admittedly gained a bit more excitement in the final races. Everything seemed to point to a spectacular finale in Abu Dhabi, full of tension and nerves on the track, but the reality was quite the opposite; it was a lackluster race, devoid of any thrill, and with a champion who didn't seem to generate the euphoria and joy that such a title demanded. Personally, I think many expected, or even wanted, Verstappen or even Piastri to win; that's the feeling that permeates social media and was palpable yesterday at the Yas Marina Circuit, according to some journalists.
Lando Norris terminó ganando por apenas dos puntos, esos que gracias al error/despiste de Antonelli en la última vuelta en Catar, pudo rescatar pasando del P5 al P4. La verdad es que nunca sabremos lo que realmente pasó en aquella vuelta final pero sin dudas fue vital para que el joven británico de McLaren levantara su primer título mundial. Como dije las expectativas por la carrera eran gigantescas, se esperaba que los pilotos salieran con el cuchillo entre los dientes pero lo unico relevante que vimos fue la primera vuelta en donde Piastri adelantó a Norris para ponerse P2. Viendo aquello uno imaginaba que se podían venir cosas interesantes, no fue así. En términos generales la carrera fue una procesión que se alteraba con las entradas a boxes dependiendo de las estrategias de cada equipo.
Lando Norris ended up winning by a mere two points, those he salvaged thanks to Antonelli's mistake/spill on the last lap in Qatar, moving from P5 to P4. The truth is, we'll never know what really happened on that final lap, but it was undoubtedly vital for the young Briton from McLaren to lift his first world title. As I said, expectations for the race were enormous; the drivers were expected to come out fighting tooth and nail, but the only noteworthy event we saw was the first lap when Piastri overtook Norris to take P2. Seeing that, one would have imagined something interesting was to come, but it wasn't. Generally speaking, the race was a procession, disrupted by pit stops depending on each team's strategy.

Es muy raro que en una definición de campeonato tan cerrada no pasen cosas cuestionables que dejen a la FIA en el borde del abismo como lo sucedido en el 2021. Esta vez los protagonistas fueron Yuki Tsunoda, en su última carrera como piloto de la F1, y el aspirante al campeonato Norris. El trabajo del japonés era retener lo más posible a Lando pero fue inútil al punto de que el "kamikaze" del asfalto decidió dejar sin pista al piloto de McLaren. La polémica acá es que si, Tsunoda fue sancionado pero Lando no cuando en esta misma temporada pasó lo mismo con Verstappen y el neerlandés fue penalizado por adelantar por fuera de la pista. Por la sanción Norris no hubiese perdido su campeonato pero lo que se cuestiona es la poca credibilidad y criterio de la FIA y que al final esto genera ruido y algunos lo utilizarán para desmeritar a Lando. Una mancha que no era necesaria.
It's very rare that in such a close championship race, questionable incidents don't occur that leave the FIA on the brink of disaster, as happened in 2021. This time, the protagonists were Yuki Tsunoda, in his last race as an F1 driver, and championship contender Lando Norris. The Japanese driver's job was to hold Lando for as long as possible, but it was futile to the point that the "kamikaze" of the track decided to cut off the McLaren driver. The controversy here is that while Tsunoda was penalized, Lando wasn't, even though the same thing happened this season with Verstappen, who was penalized for overtaking off the track. Por estas cosas y todo lo sucedido a lo largo de la temporada con McLaren y su aparente favoritismo hacia Norris es que no se respira un ambiente de júbilo en el mundo de la Fórmula 1. Creo que la gente empatizó más con Piastri o valoraron el repunte que tuvo Max a partir de la vuelta de las vacaciones de verano. La realidad es que Lando tuvo un inicio de temporada increíble y siempre se mantuvo en lo más alto, cierto es que algunos errores, más que todo mentales, lo hicieron cometer equivocaciones en pista y no lograr el resultado esperado pero nunca bajó la guardia y antes de que se vieran todo lo visto con McLaren creo que Lando gozaba de bastante más aprobación.
Because of these things, and everything that happened throughout the season with McLaren and their apparent favoritism towards Norris, there isn't a jubilant atmosphere in the Formula 1 world. I think people empathized more with Piastri or appreciated Max's resurgence after the summer break. The reality is that Lando had an incredible start to the season and was always at the top. It's true that some mistakes, mostly mental ones, led him to make errors on the track and not achieve the expected result, but he never let his guard down, and before everything that happened with McLaren, I think Lando enjoyed considerably more support.

Un poco más en líneas generales vimos lo que ha sido la tónica de toda la temporada. Los McLaren y el Red Bull de Max en lo más alto mientras que el resto intentan acercarse lo más que pueden. Un ejemplo de eso fue el hecho de que Leclerc nunca pudo darle caza a Norris, estuvo muy cerca pero ese Ferrari es todo un tractor. Afortunadamente no lo veremos más porque menudo carro inservible. De los Mercedes el mejor siempre fue Russell, siempre estuvo arriba sin hacer mucho ruido; Alonso terminó en P6 a pesar de que el Aston Martin también es la lentitud hecha auto. Hamilton pudo cerrar en P8 uno de sus peores años en la Fórmula 1, nunca pudo acoplarse a ese Ferrari, esperamos que eso cambia para el 2026.
In general terms, we saw what has been the trend throughout the season. The McLarens and Max's Red Bull were at the top, while the rest tried to get as close as possible. An example of this was Leclerc's inability to catch Norris; he came very close, but that Ferrari is a real workhorse. Fortunately, we won't see it again because what a useless car it is. Of the Mercedes, Russell was always the best, consistently near the top without making much noise. Alonso finished in P6, even though the Aston Martin is also incredibly slow. Hamilton managed to finish in P8, one of his worst years in Formula 1; he never got the hang of that Ferrari. We hope that changes for 2026.
La carrera la ganó Verstappen en su intento de coronarse, P2 para Oscar Piastri y el P3 para Lando que le bastaba para llevarse el campeonato. Personalmente me hubiese gustado que ganara Piastri, al final los dos ganaron el mismo número de carreras (7 en total) pero creo que el australiano mostró más temple y mentalidad que Lando. Si lo ganaba Verstappen iba a ser una proeza de la que se iba a hablar por mucho tiempo porque con ese RB21, el más lento en años, fue capaz de hacerle frente a los dos monstruos de carros de McLaren. Un campeonato que la verdad fue bastante bueno, estuvo pelado y que cerró apretado pero pudo haber sido realmente épico si se lo hubiesen propuesto.
Verstappen won the race in his bid to clinch the title, Oscar Piastri finished second, and Lando finished third, which was enough for him to take the championship. Personally, I would have liked Piastri to win; in the end, they both won the same number of races (7 in total), but I think the Australian showed more composure and mental fortitude than Lando. If Verstappen had won, it would have been a feat that would be talked about for a long time because with that RB21, the slowest in years, he was able to challenge the two monsters of McLaren cars. It was a pretty good championship, really, hard-fought and with a close finish, but it could have been truly epic if they had set their minds to it.
