A few spins around the hood - Actifit: September 7 2021
Today I squeezed in a walk between work (which is at home, ever since Covid started) and my neighborhood book club. So I never left the neighborhood today!
Some days, it’s really nice to just not go anywhere. This is something I’ve actually really come to appreciate since Covid started. It gives me a sense of calm not to drive, not to have to get behind the wheel, not to feel like I’m in the “rat race.” (Does anyone still use that expression? Where do great expressions go? That’s a topic for another time.)
Maybe sticking around the neighborhood reminds me a little bit of Mr. Rogers, the icon of kindness, simplicity and neighborly behavior from my childhood. You just couldn’t feel anxious or upset or fractured with Fred Rogers on the scene. That soft, caring voice. That pleasant proclamation that it’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood. Such heart-warming goodness.
We could use a bit of Mr. Rogers magic to help heal the ills of the world, don’t you think?
