Fall trees and waterfalls - Actifit: October 19 2021
October 19 is my wedding anniversary — this was our 25th! My husband and I celebrated the momentous occasion with a two-day trip to the “north shore” which is the area of Minnesota around Duluth and points north along the shore of Lake Superior.
Our first stop was a state park about 10 miles from Duluth where we took a 3.5 mile hike.
There’s a really cool suspension bridge (called the "Swinging Bridge") spanning the river below some beautiful falls.
The walk through the woods was lovely. It was really quite beautiful and warm, and I ended up taking off my sweater. It is not normally this warm in late October, and in fact last year we had snow by this time.
We only had time for the 3.5 mile hike, but there are much longer hikes too — even multi-day hikes. There is also a campground, and we vowed we would return to go camping.
In the winter, this path is used for cross-country skiing. So there are signs for various purposes, for example to warn skiers of steep declines ahead.
We came upon a picnic shelter. This hiking path is used by a hiking club that regularly meets at the park. If I lived closer I would definitely join!
There is something so marvelous about hiking among the tall trees, breathing in the aroma of falling leaves and enjoying that amazing fall light. I really loved the hike, even though it wasn’t a long one. Hiking makes me feel so alive.
We circled back around on our hike to the river and the falls. It was time to head into Duluth, as we had hotel and dinner reservations. What a stunning day!

Congratulations @jayna on your 25th wedding anniversary! It looks like a stellar day and you are so right; nothing like being outdoors in the woods in the fall! I'm not sure you would've gotten @silvertop on that bridge, lol! Maybe, me either; I'd have to look the situation over first. Take care and enjoy your trip!
I expected the bridge to be a little scary, but it wasn't. My husband has some motion issues, and has to be more careful than me with heights, but he didn't have any issues at all. It's so breathtaking to look down at the falls!
