Sublime and Beautiful Sunday - The Frozen Lakes of Minneapolis and a Crazy Travel Story - Actifit: December 26 2021

I’m back! The holidays have been wonderful but busy. I therefore did not have time to post for a couple of days. I was going through withdrawal! But I did get out for a lovely and icy walk today.

Okay here’s the crazy travel story. Some friends of ours who live on the west coast decided to come out here with their whole family for the holidays, as they grew up here in Minnesota and have a lot of family members here in both sides. They brought their two kids as well as the spouse of one and the girlfriend of the other. The older couple flew out and the four “kids” flew. And they all rented a house together.

Once they all arrived and got settled into the house, they took Covid tests to make sure they were negative prior to visiting family members. But two of them tested positive! So they have a mess in their hands trying to figure out how to quarantine! And how to get back home!

Anyway, we went walking with them today out around the lakes, all of us in masks and staying distant from the one who was there that had positive test results. He has no symptoms! Plus, my husband and I are both vaccinated and boosted. (We take all precautions anyway, but we are not freaked out like we were a year ago!)

I’ve been saying for weeks that this time is coming: the lakes are now frozen. I find the ice so beautiful. I love the winter scenery.

Of course people are out on them skating and drilling holes in the ice for fishing. I personally think it is a bit too early, as we had some warm weather over the past few weeks. But they looked quite confident. There were some ice rinks that had been groomed and in some people were just enjoying skating. On others, there were hockey games.

It was really fun to catch up with our friends, and their spirits were high even though they have had to make a lot of adjustments to their plans!

This year has been crazy for travelers. Evidently 6000 flights were canceled over the holiday weekend because so many airline staff members are out sick with Covid!

Will life ever return to normal? I hope so!
