Ice out! Actifit: April 16 2022

Each year in Minnesota. “Ice out” is officially declared at various point around the state. Up north it will be a little longer. Where I live, in the suburbs of Minneapolis, that day was officially declared yesterday.

My husband and I took a nice walk out the lake trail to verify with our own eyes that the ice is gone. Sure enough! It is water as far as the eye can see. It was especially hard to believe because it has been very cold — below freezing every night. But evidently we really are actually headed into spring!

I always love to include the docs in the pictures for perspective.

The sun slipped behind some clouds, which created a dramatic effect.

Now for some pictures along the path.

It was chilly but very beautiful and the blackbirds were singing and fluttering in the reeds. They love the marsh!

And there was an occasional goose too.

I am very excited that spring is on the horizon. It has been so crazy cold! I can’t believe I have to wear this warm gear in mid-April!

That is a good question, @wrestlingdesires. I looked it up and it’s a combined effort of the county sheriff and the Freshwater Society Board chair. It’s good to know one’s tax dollars are devoted to the important things! 😁
