Wetland walk: August 17 2025

I had a wonderful walk at a nature center, even though it was a hot afternoon, and a little bit muggy. This nature center is delightful. It has an interpretive center, which I have never actually been inside of! But I love the trails. They wind through beautiful wooded areas and around a marsh, some frog and turtle ponds, and a lake.

Here’s a picture of a frog, sunning himself above the algae filled pond.

As you can see, the pond is bright with algae!

Here are some pictures of the boardwalk through the marsh. Without the boardwalk, it would be impossible to navigate through it because it’s very wet and boggy, and the cat tails and reeds are higher than your head.

Here’s are some pictures of the lake and the lily pads that grow around the edges.

It was really a wonderful walk. I saw a number of people walking the trail and enjoying the summer day. With summer winding down here, people in Minnesota tend to panic and get outside as much as possible.

I ended up leaving the trail toward the end of the walk and taking a detour through a charming neighborhood.

A white squirrel tried to hide from me! But I managed to get his picture.

It looks like a lovely area! The boardwalk is intriguing; hope they do the upkeep on the boards!

An albino squirrel! I only know of one other person who has seen one and that was my son who saw it while working for the City of Issequah. I think they might be pretty rare!

We seem to have quite a number of white squirrels around here, @elizabethbit and @silvertop. They are definitely more rare than the standard gray ones! And they are also more shy!

I don’t believe I’ve ever seen a white squirrel, so very unique, glad you were able to get a photo!😊🤗
I think people tend to panic up here as well, with the rains beginning…..
One more good reason to get outside as much as possible!😇
