Wednesday Walk - Hydrangea Sightings: September 10 2025
I walked through some neighborhoods near home this evening. It is the perfect season for certain shrub and tree varieties of hydrangeas.
The one above was the most spectacular one I saw, but there were many more that were also lovely.
I vowed to find some shrub hydrangeas. I’ve got some in one of my garden spaces that seem to be a very fussy variety, and I have not been able to get them to bloom for two years. Time to go hydrangea shopping. The ones I saw tonight look like they are doing just fine!
As you can see, there was no shortage of these amazing floral shrubs and trees.
We are on the cusp of fall weather and foliage coming into force, but there were many other lovely flowers along the way as well.

Hydrangeas certainly love Minnesota!🤗
Yes, I'm not sure I quite realized it before, but Minnesota is definitely a happy place for hydrangeas! I remember we had them in the yard where I grew up in Oregon too. They were the white kind and we called them snowballs.
Liz tells me if you place a rusty nail or a few in the ground with the plant it changes the color!🤔😇
