The Japanese Osaka was shocked by 23rd seeded Sakkari from Greece in straight sets 6-0 6-4 to advance to the semi's.

It was an emotional moment for Osaka after the loss as she hid under a towel in a bid to compose herself after the stunning defeat she experienced.

Sakkari on the other hand celebrated the victory as she roared in what seemed to be her biggest career win. She was gathered by her team in celebration with hugging and all.

Maria Sakkari next game come against winner of either Canadian eighth seed Bianca Andreescu or Spain's Sara Sorribes Tormo.
