I don't really like the idea of digging down a lot as it could potentially cause a ton of problems so the idea of getting it from the asteroid belt fits me better.

I've been thinking about it some more. The video does some good explanation of how it can be done and controlled theoretically. It doesn't necessarily have to be digging to Earth's core. Mars' core is inactive and digging down might make reactivating the core easier or we could dig to the active core of another planet.
