When exercise becomes an obsession

Beyond exercising to stay healthy, physically, which is the first thing you think of, there is another important component in exercising, is that when we do it our mind begins to focus on the activity and this is already a great benefit. Because in this way we are practicing concentration, so mentally it also strengthens us.

But particularly I do not think it is logical to focus only on achieving a great body, because in some people this can end up being obsessive, I will never be against developing an athletic or toned body, but the truth is that there are those who sacrifice too much just for it. I understand this in those who dedicate themselves to modeling, in those people in whom their body is their way of making a living, but going to extremes I don't think it's a good thing.

I've known people who consider their body as some sort of ultra sacred temple, and wow, they don't allow themselves to eat absolutely nothing but the strict diet they are on. I am very clear that it is more than necessary to carry hand in hand with training a balanced diet, but I have noticed that when this reality is extreme it can be almost unhealthy.

I repeat, I am very clear on the fact that it is important to take care of our body, eat healthy to give our body what it needs and not to overdo it, because then come problems of obesity, increased cholesterol and heart disease, also that it is necessary not to be sedentary, as it predisposes us to very particular diseases, which by the way, are becoming more frequent, but everything should be carried in a healthy way.

But to go into those points in which everything revolves around a single theme, exercise and diet, well, it is a bit exaggerated, especially if what we want is to stay healthy. I could understand that in high level sportsmen, that the truth is that there are not so many that I know, actually I do not know any, because it seems to be that the only way to be excellent in some discipline is to have a total dedication to this one.

This last we can see it in any performer (musician, athletes, painters, etc), if there is not delivery there is not usually an excellence, nevertheless, I do not see well that there is obsession in anything, but it is something personal, finally each person can assume of the form that wishes as he will do certain activity.

What is clear to me is that it is good to take care of oneself, necessary, in fact, but everything in moderation, so that it does not mean suffering the fact of doing it, because when that happens, it ends up becoming something complex to digest for us and for those around us.

By the way, I should start exercising too, the years are passing, and the body no longer responds the same, I think it would be good for me...

I have recently begun to exercise on a regular basis, around 2 or 3 times per week, because I was very out of shape after spending years without sufficient physical activity. The first day it was hard to do even 10 push-ups but now I can do 20 in a row. I have been feeling a bit more energized after beginning exercising myself so it definitely helps.

It sure does, it helps. 20 fllexions is a good number, I have not started in full, but if it is within the things I should start.
Thanks for your input

You're right brother, you have to exercise but not until you become obsessed. For example, I train to stay healthy and I always proclaim that there must be a balance between body, mind and spirit. If you walk through my blog, there you will find endless routines. A hug brother.

Then I must check out your blog, so that when I start exercising, I have a guide. Thank you. By the way, mind/body balance, good point, I'm writing about it.
