The Mode is Beast

Plain and simple: I'm going to 56 years old in a little over a month. I workout hard enough to be at my healthiest, but old enough to feel the aches and pains and not young enough to do some of the things I wish I could do.

I count my blessings for many things. I mean, I'm only about 6 years younger than my mother died when she was 62. She battled cancer for 10 years. She will always be my HERO.

My father, who is father just by seed; has had a pretty good life and now that I believe he is about 80 or so has been dealing with prostate cancer. He's still looks good and it looks like they have a handle on the cancer and I expect him to live longer.

With that said, the odds are against me and adding my self destructive ways when I was younger, with all the shit I put in my body and the late night partying, the lack of sleeping and all the junk food and so on; that wasn't a good path to be on.

I never was truly anywhere near an athlete when I was a kid and whenever I did play a sport here or there, I sucked and got hurt often and I preferred just watching sports opposed to playing it. I was pretty good at handball, as I did that when I was cutting school in high school back in the day lol.

Shit, I miss those days. Anyway, I digress.

I've done very well on my health and fitness journey, but just like anything else in life; there has been challenges along the way. The working out has been constant except for a couple of injuries that knocked me off track for a few days here and there, but as of the time of this post; I've worked out in 3066 HIIT sessions. Keeping in mind that is over 8 years.

There was a day I did 4 sessions IN ONE DAY and I never did that again or won't do that again, but I was feeling like a monster during that time.

I ran 3 half marathons, barely missing one by a mile and running another one 2 weeks later or was it a week? It was definitely less than a month later and finishing it. That was one of the most accomplished I felt in my whole entire existence. I wept like a baby.

After COVID I attempted a half and only ran a little over 7 miles before I had to walk the rest. That was disappointing, but totally expected.

Then along the way a hamstring injury curtailed classes and had me choose shorter distance at running events to stay true to running; but reasonable distances.

We have Run Club now, so that's nice to have as continued rebuilding of my running distances and SPEED.

So although, it takes more than just working out to keep in shape; the matter of eating healthy is paramount to everything from not only feeling good, being well hydrated, looking good and minimizing the injuries.

So as I'm getting my mind right on a daily basis and I'm having those beast mode glimpses; I'm still pushing to get back to what I expect of myself and I'm still not there yet.

So where the high intensity interval training sessions continue without fail, I'm getting back to the basics and getting ready for the next few months of feeling good:

I am avoiding drinking my calories
A LOT more water - A Gallon Plus a day
Eating healthier snacks
More home cooked meals and put an emphasis on more meal prepping
MORE Vegetables - A LOT more

I have been tracking my eating using an app for years, but to get my mindset more inline with the list above and not worry so much about numbers, I can save my mental for the physical and just eat right and drink a lot of water without stressing the other stuff. I do focus on serving size. There are plenty of healthy things that can still add to overloading on calories - defeating the purpose.

Very nice, Jimmy. The body and the mind have to work synergistically to get the best results and you are accomplishing that.

We all get wiser as we get older. As far as I am concerned you are an inspiration to young and old. Thanks for sharing.

😳😂 Oh my, you pushed yourself hard! I like that you are intentional about your health which is the best way to live, in my opinion.

Sometimes, you should go easy yourself. It will be worth it eventually! Well done! 🙂
