One of the factors that they said could cause the stars of the galaxy to go crazy and cause some to collide with others, was the collision between our galaxy and the Andromeda galaxy, and it was estimated that it was going to happen within 5,000 million years. They had even named this new giant galaxy, it would be called Lactomeda because both galaxies would merge, but it turns out that a new study has been published that tells us that there will not be a collision or if there is a collision it will not be within than 5 billion years but much further.

The study is published in the journal Nature Astronomy and is led by Till Sawala from the University of Helsinki in Finland and greatly reduces the possibility of an impact between Andromeda and the Milky Way. They have calculated it this time by adding the gravitational influence of other nearby galaxies, dark matter and dark energy can affect the final result and with this they have discovered that there is only a 50% chance that the Milky Way and Andromeda will end up merging at least within 10,000 million years, if the galaxies do not merge there is also the possibility that they will enter a long and slow orbit, one around the other orbiting like this for a very long time.

In summary, the collision between the Milky Way and Andromeda is a future event that is not yet completely defined, with a 50% probability of occurring in the next 10 billion years and everything indicates that the collision is not inevitable, and there are possibilities that the galaxies will pass close to each other without merging.
