The UEFA Champions League is a trophy every player wants to win. Some players go as far as leaving their former club in search of a better team where they stand the chance of winning the UEFA Champions League. Some also turned down transfer requests from teams without Champions League play.

Today, I will bring to mind three players that left their former club either to win the champions league or to play for a better club, but only to see their former club lift the popular trophy after their departure.

Eden Hazard.

Eden Hazard joined Chelsea after the club's champions league victory in 2012. He stayed with Chelsea till 2019 when he joined Real Madrid. While in Chelsea, he won 2 Europa League trophies, 2 Premier League trophies, 1 FA Cup, and 1 League Cup. He also won the PFA Young Player of the Year in his first season with Chelsea, the FWA Footballer of the Year, and the PFA Players' Player of the Year award in the 2014-2015 season.

Sadly, He missed Chelsea's UEFA Champions League victory in 2021.

ALVARO MORATA

Morata joined Chelsea from Real Madrid for a fee of around £60 million in 2017. He had a poor season in Chelsea and left the club in 2018 to join Atletico Madrid with less than 30 total goals in all competitions for Chelsea.

Chelsea won the UEFA Champions League three years after his departure.

PHILIPPE COUTINHO

Coutinho joined Liverpool in 2013 and stayed five years with the club. He was named the PFA player of the year in 2015. He flourished in Liverpool which made Barcelona sign him for €160 million, a record-breaking fee at that time making him the most expensive player back then. He forced his way to Barcelona because Liverpool has been suffering cup drought for more than four years.

Liverpool under Klopp lifted the UEFA Champions League just a year after his departure ( 2019).

However, unlike Hazard and Morata who have not won the Champions League after leaving their former clubs, Countinho won the UEFA Champions League while on loan at Bayern Munich. Morata only won the champions league in Real Madrid before joining Chelsea, and Hazard is yet to win the Champions League.

Hahah... There it goes.

I was actually looking for Coutinho on the last until I saw him.

I think Coutinho got it wrong to force that move to Barca, but I won't be too hard on him. Afterall, we (Liverpool) were able to get Fabinho, Alisson and VVD.

Good to see him back to EPL though.

Yeah. Though I could have preferred him playing for a top premier league club than Aston villa. Perhaps at the end of the loan, he might get offers from top premier league clubs

Yeah... It's a thing of pride at the moment.

We need him in our midfield at Liverpool, but we still can't forget how he left when we actually built a team around him

I think he would be able to go up to the top 6 by next season. The best part of this move is that he may be lucky to get a call from Brazil for world cup.

I hope so. Leaving Liverpool didn't favor him. He has since then struggled at Barcelona. He is lucky to make the champions league with Bayern.

Besides, I want to ask you since you are a Liverpool fan.

Why is it that players that forced their way out of Liverpool struggle afterward?. Fernando Torres suffered the same fate at Chelsea after leaving Liverpool, although he got his dream cup with Chelsea. Now, Coutinho, seems you guys have some explanations to make.

Haha... What about wijnaldum and Emre Can? They are not doing well either.

It's a pain for them. It also a pain for the fan to loose those good players.

Same goes for the club.

At the moment, the contract talk with Salah is getting too dragged on and I see no reason for it. Business wise, I understand that the stakeholders are trying to make more money by not paying players as much, but if we want to retain the big boys in our team, we really need to increase our spending.

Thanks for bringing this up. This is the issue we face with Rudiger. He is a good player and he deserves the pay he is demanding. But, there is something we need to understand when it comes to paying players.
A club can destroy its team through a salary increase. Yes, some players contribute more towards the success of the club but that does not make the rest of the players less important.

The dressing room can be disorganized if every world-class player is given his demands. Remember what happened in Manchester United, when Sanchez earns high pay with a little contribution to the team. Manchester United players started murmuring about him and some players showed less commitment then.

In general, clubs are very careful when it comes to players salary upgrade

Yeah... I have seen that and I'm always impressed whenever I see the spending of EPL clubs. Liverpool is one of the least spenders and it have helped to reduce issues in the dressing room. That's a fact.

The case of Sanchez caused alot of issues. The worst part of it is that he was almost useless in the team.

The thing is, when you see how fans react, you will also know that these club owners need to have a very tough skin in order to do well in that position without falling for pressure from the fans 😂.

I just wish that Salah will put pen to paper as soon as possible. Haha. Time no dey

For an anti-Liverpool fan like me , I wish he leaves 😜. I want to see less of his threat.

I remembered how Manchester United fans block old Trafford for Ole Gunner sack. The club was able to ignore the heat and did the needful when they seem it fit.

Is nice having you around. Have always loved the sports community but stopped posting due to less engagement down the comment section.

Hahah... Yeah. I also love talking sports, but time wouldn't let me do it much.

Good to have this discuss with you.

Lemme calm down and know what a midfield combo of Old Boring Milner (I like him shaaa) and Hendo would be able to do today Again 11 man Arsenal 😂😂.

We couldn't beat them when they were a man down. Today will be interesting. Hehe.
