Uefa Champions League Semi-Finals first leg: Analysis, Summary and Predictions
Manchester City vs Real Madrid.
The first match of this series was played in Manchester at the Etihad Stadium where the citizens received Ancelotti's team, a match that began with a phenomenal onslaught of Pep's team who in just two minutes were ahead on the scoreboard with a goal from Kevin de Bruyne with an exquisite cross from Mahrez. City were on top in the first minutes of the match and did not give up the pressure and as a result, just in the 11th minute of the match, City got the second goal at the feet of Gabriel Jesus who, after a bad defense by Alaba, was in front of the goalkeeper and scored beating Courtouis. Only 11 minutes into the match and City was already 2-0 up in what seemed to be a scandalous victory, City continued attacking the minutes after the second goal where they had a very clear chance at the feet of Mahrez that would have been the 3-0 but failed to capitalize and as the minutes passed Real Madrid began to consolidate on the field and the match began to be more balanced. In the 33rd minute of the match, after a Modric's recovery, Mendy put in a very good cross for Benzema to score with his left foot, beating Ederson. The game went into the break with City who could have capitalized on a couple of situations that could have given them a greater advantage and Madrid who, after a horrible start to the game, gradually earned their place on the pitch.
El primer partido de esta serie se jugó en Manchester en el Etihad Stadium donde los citizens recibieron al equipo de Ancelotti, un encuentro que inicio con una embestida fenomenal del Equipo de Pep quienes en apenas dos minutos se adelantaban en el marcador con un gol de Kevin de Bruyne con un centro exquisito de Mahrez. El City se encontraba arriba en los primeros minutos del partido y no cedía la presión y producto de esta a penas en el minuto 11 del encuentro el City consigue el segundo gol a los pies de Gabriel Jesus quien luego de una mala defensa de Alaba queda frente al arquero y define batiendo a Courtouis. A penas iban 11 minutos de partido y ya el City se encontraba 2-0 por arriba en lo que parecía sería una goleada escandalosa, el City siguió atacando los minutos posteriores al segundo gol en donde tuvo una ocasión clarísima en los pies de Mahrez que hubiese sido el 3-0 pero fallo en capitalizar y con el pasar de los minutos el Real Madrid empezó a afianzarse en el campo y el partido empezó a ser más equilibrado. Transcurría el minuto 33 del encuentro cuando posterior a una recuperación de Modric, Mendy mete un muy buen centro para que Benzema defina de zurda batiendo a Ederson. Asi se iria el partido al desacanso con un City que pudo haber capitalizado un par de situaciones que les podría haber dado mayor ventaja y un Madrid que luego de un horrible inicio de partido poco a poco fue ganándose su lugar en la cancha.

Benzema takes the penalty in an exquisite way and puts the final goal of the match.
El segundo tiempo iniciaría nuevamente con un Manchester City eléctrico que en los primeros minutos conseguiría una mano a mano de Mahrez quien nuevamente fallaría esta vez contra el poste del arco que defiende Courtois, el rebote de esta jugada cayo en los pies de Phil Foden quien inexplicablemente fallo sin portero. Bajo este dominio Citizen en el minuto 53 se generaría una escapada por Banda de Fernandinho quien con un centro preciso consigue a Foden solo en el área para cabecear y convertir ese tercer gol que tanto había fallado el City. Todo era dominio del City el Real Madrid había conseguido su único gol en una jugada aislada y solo parecía que el marcador seguiría aumentando pero solo 2 minutos después del tercer gol Vinicius logra escaparse por banda en un error nefasto de Fernandinho y define contra Ederson para colocar el partido 3-2 un resultado que podría decirse afortunado para el Real Madrid ya que no había generado casi ocasiones. Luego del gol del Real Madrid el partido siguió llevando la misma tónica con un City protagonista y un Real Madrid replegado hasta que en el minuto 74 en una jugada un poco accidentada Bernardo Silva coloca un zurdazo al Angulo para poner el encuentro 4-2, un resultado que parecía seria el definitivo pero nuevamente la resiliencia del Real Madrid y la experiencia de sus jugadores los salva de una situación que pudo ser mucho peor, y lo cierto es que en el minuto 82 cuando ya finalizaba el partido Toni Kroos lanza un centro en donde de manera muy desafortunada Laporte la toca con la mano y desvía la trayectoria del Balón y el árbitro cobra penal. Benzema cobra el penal de una manera exquisita y pone el 4-3 definitivo del partido.
Manchester City dominated the game from start to finish and wasted a lot of opportunities, also the defense was very shaky and made a couple of mistakes that could have prevented 2 of the 3 goals of Real Madrid, however I think City was superior in this game. On the other side we find an impressive Real Madrid and the truth is that this team shows again and again that they are a competitive team and that they have the conditions to win against anyone. I am also impressed by Real Madrid's ability to overcome adversity, they are definitely a team that should never be underestimated.
El Manchester City domino el encuentro de principio a fin y desperdicio muchísimas oportunidades, además la defensa estuvo muy insegura y cometió par de errores que podrían haber evitado 2 de los 3 goles del Real Madrid, sin embargo el City me parece fue superior en este partido. Por la otra parte nos encontramos a un Real Madrid impresionante y es que la verdad es que este equipo demuestra una y otra vez que son un equipo competitivo y que tiene las condiciones para ganar ante cualquiera. Además me es impresionante la capacidad del Real Madrid para sobreponerse a la adversidad, definitivamente son un equipo que jamás debería ser subestimado.

The second leg will be played at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday, and it seems to me that City will win this series, offensively they had a very good first leg and I think that in Madrid they will have a very good performance offensively speaking, the key to the game for me is the defense and I think that if Manchester City manages to defend firmly and above all without so many mistakes they can win this game and of course the series. As for Real Madrid it seems to me that they have already given us everything they have this season, Benzema and Vinicius are two exceptional players who are going through a spectacular moment but it seems to me that the rest of the team does not follow that same tune and they will not be able to establish a dominance against Pep's team, also Manchester showed against Atleti that they have what it takes to withstand the pressure and pull off a match of these characteristics. El partido de vuelta se jugara en el Santiago Bernabéu el día miércoles, y me parece que el City lograra ganar esta serie, ofensivamente tuvieron un muy buen partido de ida y pienso que en Madrid volverán a tener un muy buen desempeño ofensivamente hablando, la clave del partido para mi pasa por la defensa y creo que si el Manchester City logra defender con firmeza y sobretodo sin tantos errores podrá ganar este partido y por supuesto la serie. En cuanto al Real Madrid me parece que ya nos ha dado todo lo que tiene esta temporada, Benzema y Vinicius son dos jugadores excepcionales y que atraviesan un momento espectacular pero me parece que el resto del equipo no sigue esa misma sintonía y que no van a poder establecer un Dominio contra el equipo de Pep, además el Manchester demostró ante el Atleti que tiene lo que se necesita para aguantar la presión y sacar adelante un partido de estas características. Por ultimo aunque veo al city como ganador de esta serie no quiero descartar al Madrid por que como dije anteriormente es un Equipo que jamas debería ser Subestimado.
Liverpool vs Villareal
Today, Wednesday, Liverpool and Villareal faced each other at Anfield. This is a particular series since we could consider Villareal as an intruder because they are not usual in these instances and they also qualified surprisingly by leaving out Bayern Munich. The match unfolded under total domination of Klopp's team who in the first half looked for the goal in several opportunities (such as Thigo's post) but did not get it perhaps due to lack of fortune, Villareal was dedicated to defend and look for a counterattack opportunity that never presented itself. And so we arrived at the second half of the match where everything remained in the same conditions with a Liverpool protagonist and proposing game and Villareal retreated defending until in the 53rd minute Henderson tries a cross from the right that deflects Estupiñan and with a little luck fits into the goal of Rulli for the 1-0 and then in the 55th minute Mane defines with finesse to Salah's pass for the final 2-0.
Hoy miércoles se enfrentaron Liverpool y Villareal en Anfield. Esta es una serie peculiar ya que podríamos considerar al Villareal como un intruso debido a que no es habitual de estas instancias y que además clasifico sorpresivamente al dejar fuera al Bayern Munich. El partido se desenvolvió bajo dominio total del Equipo de Klopp quienes en el primer tiempo buscaron el Gol en varias oportunidades (como el poste de Thigo) pero no lo consiguieron quizá por falta de fortuna, el Villareal se dedicó a defender y buscar una oportunidad de contra ataque que nunca se presentó. Y así llegamos al segundo tiempo del encuentro donde todose mantuvo en las mismas condiciones con un Liverpool protagonista y proponiendo juego y el Villareal replegado defendiendo hasta que en el minuto 53 Henderson intenta un centro por derecha que se desvía en Estupiñan y con un poco de suerte se encaja en el arco de Rulli para el 1-0 y seguidamente en el minuto 55 Mane define con sutileza a pase de Salah para el 2-0 definitivo en un partido donde tranquilamente el Liverpool pudo haber anotado un gol más.

For the second leg they will face each other in Spain on Tuesday and I personally think that with this 2-0 and the level of play that Liverpool has been showing the series is defined. With all due respect to Villareal, I don't think they have the resources nor the experience to turn this 2-0 score around, but this is the Champions League and anything can happen, so we will see what happens at El Madrigal. Personally as I have said in previous posts I think the Final will be English and we will see a Manchester City vs Liverpool.
Para el partido de vuelta se enfrentaran en España el dia martes y personalmente pienso que con este 2-0 y el nivel futbolístico que ha venido mostrando el Liverpool la serie está definida. Con todo el respeto que merece el Villareal no creo que tenga los resursos futbolísticos ni la experiencia suficiente para dar vuelta a este 2-0, igualmente esto es la Champions League y todo puede pasar asi que veremos que sucede en El Madrigal. Personalmente como ya he dicho en post anteriores creo que la Final será Inglesa y que veremos un Manchester City vs Liverpool.
