Hello Friends of the SportsTalk Community today I wanted to talk a little bit about yesterday's game between the Clippers and the Pelicans that ended the Play In tournament to give way to the Playoffs. This Play In had 3 predictable winners as I had already blogged in a previous post where I gave Minnesota, Brooklyn, Atlanta and Los Angeles as candidates. The first 3 won as expected but the Clippers suffered a last minute loss and Paul George was unable to play the game against New Orleans which was a very important loss as the California team lost their best player available. >Hola Amigos de la Comunidad de SportsTalk hoy quería hablar un poco acerca del partido de ayer entre los Clippers y los Pelicans que dio final al torneo Play In para dar paso a los Playoff. Este Play in tuvo 3 ganadores previsibles como ya había publicado en un post anterior donde daba como candidatos a Minnesota, Brooklyn, Atlanta y Los Angeles. Los 3 primeros ganaron como estaba previsto pero los Clippers sufrieron una baja de última hora y Paul George no pudo jugar el partido ante Nuevo Orleans lo que fue una baja importantísima ya que el equipo de California perdía a su mejor jugador disponible.

This was the last game of the Play in where the Clippers were coming off a loss to Minnesota and the Pelicans were coming off a win over San Antonio. The New Orleans team had already left more than good impressions this season without their main star Zion Williamson, many expected the Clippers to win but the absence of Paul George at the last minute left the Clippers without their best weapon and allowed the Pelicans to win that last ticket to the Playoffs in a surprising way.

Este suponía el último partido de los Play in donde los Clippers venían de sufrir una derrota ante Minnesota y los Pelicans venían de ganarle a San Antonio. El equipo de Nuevo Orleans ya había dejado más que buenas impresiones esta temporada sin su principal figura Zion Williamson, muchos daban como ganadores a los Clippers pero la ausencia de Paul George a última hora dejo a los Clippers sin su mejor arma y le permitió a los Pelicans ganar ese último boleto a los Playoff de manera un tanto sorpresiva.

The game started with a very good rhythm of the Pelicans with an impressive Brandon Ingram scoring 16 points in the first quarter on the contrary the Clippers had a slower start and with the passing of the game were warming up, the first half ended in favor of the Pelicans who dominated the first quarter by 8 points for a total of 56 while the Clippers went to the break with 46 points.

El partido empezó con un muy buen ritmo de los Pelicans con un Brandon Ingram impresionante anotando 16 puntos en el primer cuarto por el contrario los Clippers tuvieron un comienzo mas lento y con el pasar del partido fueron calentando motores, la primera mitad termino a favor de los Pelicans quienes dominaron el primer cuarto por 8 puntos para un total de 56 mientras que los Clippers fueron al descanso con 46.

The second half of the game started with a 10 point lead for New Orleans but the Los Angeles team was already playing at their best level of the game and thanks to an impressive performance by Reggie Jackson they were able to erase the Pelicans lead and the Clippers started to pull away to end the 3rd quarter 74-84 in favor of the Los Angeles team. The last quarter started with an important advantage for the Clippers in what seemed to be a victory for them but again the New Orleans team put an impressive performance of Brandon Ingram who collaborated with 7 points in the final quarter, another important contribution for the Pelicans came from the bench with Larry Nance Jr and Trey Murhpy who both scored 14 points in the game and together with Jose Alvarado contributed with 13 points 9 rebounds and 3 assists in the final quarter of the game.

La segunda mitad del partido comienza con una ventaja de 10 puntos de Nueva Orleans pero ya el equipo de Los Angeles estaba jugando a su mejor nivel del encuentro y de la mano de una actuación impresionante de Reggie Jackson lograron desaparecer la ventaja de los Pelicans que empezaron a ver a los Clippers alejarse en el marcador para terminar el 3er Cuarto 74-84 a favor del equipo de Los Angeles. El último cuarto comienza con una ventaja importante de los Clippers en lo que parecía sería una victoria para ellos pero nuevamente el equipo de Nueva Orleans pone una actuación impresionante de Brandon Ingram quien colaboro con 7 puntos en el cuarto final, otra contribución importante para los Pelicans vino desde la banca con Larry Nance Jr y Trey Murhpy quienes anotaron ambos 14 puntos en el encuentro y en conjunto con Jose Alvarado contribuyeron con 13 puntos 9 rebotes y 3 asistencias en el cuarto final del encuentro.

We could ask how the Clippers, after coming back from 16 points down and being up by 10 in the last quarter, blew the lead and lost the game and it seems to me that the key was 3 fundamental factors. The first was offensive rebounding. The Pelicans dominated the paint in the last quarter and outplayed the Clippers who were unable to hold the lead. The second factor was the absence of George, the lack of an important player prevented them from holding that lead, it was evident that the Clippers needed that experience on the court to be able to stop the Pelicans onslaught. Finally, the Pelicans had important performances from Larry Nance Jr. and Trey Murhpy, who contributed a lot, especially in the last quarter.

Podríamos preguntarnos como es que Los Clipper luego de remontar 16 puntos y llegar a estar arriba por 10 en el último cuarto desperdiciaron la ventaja y perdieron el partido y me parece que la clave pasa por 3 factores fundamentales. El primero fueron los rebotes ofensivos Los Pelicans dominaron la pintura en el último cuarto y superaron a los Clippers quienes a raíz de esto se vieron incapaces de sostener la ventaja. El segundo factor fue la ausencia de George, la falta de un jugador importante le impidió sostener esa ventaja, fue evidente que el equipo de los Clippers necesitaban de esa experiencia en cancha para poder frenar la embestida de los Pelicans. Por último fue un factor influyente la participación de las bancas, los Pelicans tuvieron actuaciones importantes de Larry Nance Jr y de Trey Murhpy quienes aportaron muchísimo y en especial en el último cuarto.

What is certain is that the Pelicans qualified and are heading to the Playoffs where they will face the Phoenix Suns, the best team in the league. Looking ahead in this series the Pelicans will have to face the team with the best performance during the season and will need to look more solid than what they showed against these Clippers to be able to compete, personally I think the Suns will sweep the series, however this season was very good for the Pelicans who are starting to get the big game experience that is necessary to form a great team and will be looking to recover their top player Zion Williamson for next season.

Lo cierto es que los Pelicans clasificaron y se dirigen a los Playoff donde efrentaran a los Phoenix Suns el mejor equipo de la Liga. De cara a lo que viene en esta serie los Pelicans tendrán que enfrentarse a el equipo con mejor desempeño durante la temporada y necesitaran verse mas solidos de lo que mostraron contra estos Clippers para poder competir, personalmente pienso que los Suns barreran la serie, sin embargo esta temporada fue muy buena para los Pelicans quienes ya empiezan a adquirir la experiencia de partidos importantes que es necesaria para formar un gran equipo y buscaran recuperar a su máxima figura Zion Williamson de cara a la próxima temporada.
