In a big announcement, Shreyas Iyer will return as the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the upcoming IPL 2024 season. Iyer missed the entire 2023 season due to a back injury and was appointed as vice-captain for the 2024 IPL by Nitish Rana, who was the captain this season.

Acquired by KKR for Rs 12.25 crore ahead of IPL 2022, Iyer led the team to seventh place that season. However, he suffered a back injury in April 2023, due to which he missed the IPL final and the World Test Championship. In IPL 2023, KKR faced the same challenge under Ranand and finished seventh with 6 wins and 8 losses. "I think there were a lot of problems last year, including the injury rate," said Iyer on his thoughts on the future. Nitish has not only replaced me, he has done a very good job of leadership and leadership. I am happy that KKR appointed him as their vice-captain. No doubt, this will strengthen the management team and squat.

KKR has seen a lot of changes since Iyer took over as captain in his last season. Chandrakant Pandit and Gautam Gambhir joined as coach and team leader. Gambhir had previously won two IPL titles with KKR in 2012 and 2014.

Iyer worked with Pandit at Mumbai State and briefly with Gambhir at Delhi Daredevils. His IPL masterpiece came in 2018 when he replaced Gambhir for Delhi Daredevils.

KKR released 12 players including Lockie Ferguson, Shardul Thakur and Umesh Yadav ahead of the IPL auction and spent Rs 32.7 crore. KKR CEO Venky Mysore had this to say about Errand's return: "He seems to be working hard to recover from injury and seems to be showing signs of his character."
